There are quite a few places you can find these guys and they wander about out in the world a good bit, as well. It will take you awhile to gather enough for a full set of mods, but you can do it. You can also wear a combination of armor with mods, and hazmat suit pieces and it works just as well.
Yup. Everything you said I've experienced. I've now gone from level 1 to level 79 and I've found 2 pieces of a suit. I've gone to the Snow biome, picked a large town, and gone from left to right and finished every single building. then, went to the temporate biome, and rinse/wash/reapeated the same type of town. I then went to the burnt forest, picked a large town and since all towns are rinse/wash/repeat towns, I went through every poi in that town fairly quickly. That's now 3 biomes and 2 pieces of hazmat.
I've never seen a trader offer anything with the word 'hazmat' in it. No items, no fiber, nothing. I even went on a 'road trip' to every trader and never found a thing.
You mentioned that you can wear a combination of armor with mods and hazmat suit pieces and that works. Do you know what mods go on armor that prevents the radiation? I've not been able to find any.
I guess it's me. I keep thinking about hazmat fiber like military fiber. by the time I got high enough to make military pieces, I at least had some military fiber. I could even buy more from the trader. However, after hours and hours and hours, with masteries in Survival, Mechanics and Scientist, I've never found a single hazmat fiber anywhere. Even with military fiber, eventually you are able to make it yourself. But not hazmat fiber.
So, ok. I know it's not me missing something. :)
Wandering hordes with soldiers will have those hazmat guys in them. POIs that have soldiers will often have them, as well. If, however, you're not playing on one of the DF maps that Khaine loads with the mod, there may be an issue. I have no idea since I've always used one of his.
Once you find Eve, and she's sends you on her quests, she will eventually send you to a bunker in the Burned biome that will have some of these guys in it. Again, that depends on the map you're using. If you're using Khaine's maps and using any of the various sizes version 1, then you'll have the Compo Pack and there are many POIs that you can find them in. They are not as regular in the map versions numbered with a 2 with totally vanilla POIs but they DO exist.
And your right. I'm not doing the blood moon. Not yet... :)
If there is a radiation mod, I haven't seen that either. Usually, all mods are listed and the ones I can't have a closed lock next to the mods in the list. However, I have no mods locked or otherwise regarding radiation protection.
Probably (with all the other glitches in this overhaul mod) it's also a glitch. I don't know. Too many glitches to count. And like you, ol' man, I'm up there in age, and so just laugh when I can't figure crap out.
Went to the 7d board and mentioned this in the thread and was told to download a different map. But dam. I've made it to 79 and feel like it's taken 100 years w/o the blood moon. :) Wife and I did that on vanilla 7d too. Played it until we had the perfect base...."Ready?" "Yup."......Click-blood moon...click-insane...
But there wasn't enough POI's in the game. Like Fallout 4. Just rinse wash repeat towns. Oh, and the mechanics were not that good. (I had 580,000 gallons of gas) So this version is awesome. Just wish the comp pack worked. :)
However, I LOVE being able to squeeze through single block holes, move through walls a LOT, feel all godly when I can survive nasty stuff, living with Trader Rekt (his base is really easy to upgrade and it's fun to crush his skull every time I talk to him) and usually play without the Blood Moon on unless I'm done with the story and just moving toward level 175. That's a long haul and Blood Moon can push you in that direction fairly quickly at that level. You're already lasered up with power armor and stuff, and even though I now realize that I was a fool, I once built a horde base in the wasteland and raised some serious pain. It was a mind altering adventure, for sure, and I won't be doing that again... ever. I'm done with the play-through fairly soon after 175, though, so... time to start a new one.
I hope you get the chance to play and enjoy Darkness Falls. It's an amazing rework of my favorite game of all time and I really appreciate all the work its creator has put into it.
