Editing the splat3.png file
I haven't been able to find recent info on this in any forums so shoot me a link if there is one.

Does anyone know how to edit the splat3.png file to change roads in a map? I've done a good amount of research on this and I've seen some videos where folks are pulling it up in photoshop or gimp2 to edit (I have gimp2). However, when I pull the file up in gimp, it's blank. Removing the alpha layer, it's just white. Is there a way to make the roads visible?

Any help would be appreciated with specific formatting details. If anyone has a step by step guide or wants to provide one; perhaps other modders/mappers (including myself) might appreciate the guide :).

Are you trying to edit the texture of the roads themselves or change how roads are layed out in a current world? I think the textures for the roads are a different file in the resource asset but if its the later you were looking for I think converting it to a jpeg and after changing convert it back to bitmap?

Splat3.png is always blank now, there is splat3_processed.tga which appears after you load map first time. It has all the gravel, asphalt and POI concrete on it and you can edit it in photoshop. I deleted the stadium from prefabs list to free some flat space but it left huge asphalt area which I needed to delete manualy from the picture, but I don't know how it will work if you add new roads.

Note that you need to delete regions in your save game folder after you enter and exit game to generate splat3_processed.tga before you edit the picture.

Ok, so I have been able to partially figure it out.

If you "Decompose" the image in Gimp2 then it will show 4 pics at that point. One will be a transparent overlay, one will be asphalt roads, one will be dirt roads, and the final will be a black background. These can be edited and they do effect the map, but I can't figure out how to "Recompose" them where all 4 images become one again. There is a recompose option in Gimp2 but it doesn't make them all one image again.

At least I'm getting closer haha.
