Increase level cap in coop game?
Is there a way to increase max level for a coop game? I know 300 is a lot of levels but I want to be able to unlock all the skills but instead of increasing skill point count where we have a absurd number of points I rather just raise the level cap.

Yes via modding - but you should probably also mod the level multiplicator because - at least thinking about 18.4 the expierience multiplyer was set up in a way that it would pretty much take forever to reach 300.

If i had to guess you probably have to edit this line:
<level max_level="300" exp_to_level="10000" experience_multiplier="1.018" skill_points_per_level="2" clamp_exp_cost_at_level="60">

in progression.xml

but i havent edited anything besides the experience_multiplier so i am not sure if simply changing max level to a higher level will do the trick without having other effects.

Just be aware that "experience_multiplier="1.018"" (mine is already modded) means that the higher your level goes - the more xp is required - and with the standard number it pretty much gets rather insane at higher levels.

Also - if you play coop with friends - its important that the person who hosts has the edits - because the host dictates the settings.

Last but not least - are you sure you cant lock everything with level 300?

edit:
I hope you are also aware that you have to do those edits in the game files - and not in the savegame files. If you already have a running game you would have to do it via xpath - but im not sure if it would be a good idea to change something like that midgame.

I just tried this we are doing it in a19 not only did it not work but after resetting our characters lost all of the skills but not the levels and we cant earn XP at all.

I even told you that its probably not a good idea to change such things midgame and that im not sure if it works since i havent done it. Did you at least make a backup of your savefiles? What do you even mean by "resetting our characters"?

Also what did you do? Did you simply go to your ini and change "300" to something else?

Also again - why are you so sure that 300 isnt enough to max everything out - with quests?

Just another reminder:
- once you modded the game - dont load up not modded savegames

Also always backup the files you edit - if you didnt do that you can delete the file you edited and verify the integrity of game files - but this will also remove other changes you made in the files.

To be honest i dont really understand what you did - if you made a new game after the xml edits you sould have started with new characters? And as i said those are just the values that would suggest they change those things - i havent tried it myself.

edit:
If you for some reason really modded an existing savegame you can look up how to give xp to yourself - thats probably the fastest and least dangerous way to get your new character to the same level as your old - if you havent done a backup of your save-files.

Be aware that xml edits apply to any game you now start - so you have to revert those changes if they dont work - if you dont know exactly what you changed you can delet the xml and verify integrity of game files - but this will probably also remove every other xml edit you did - so always make backups before you do changes or use xpath modding.

edit2:
There could also be a hard cap for max_level but i dont know since as i said i never tried it.

I really do hope you didnt loose anything i know how frustrating that can be. Also i ll just remind you again you will probably never ever reach max level older stuff about that:

https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/15513-cap-level-and-difficulty-of-reaching-it/

So you will probably be better of to simply increase the points you get.

I would just like to note that I don't believe you need to increase the maximum level to acquire all skills. In a18.x, You could obtain just shy of all skills, at 303 skill points out of 305; and could technically acquire those last 2 points by wearing one of the stat boosting items like a Cigar or Nerdy Glasses and not buying the 10th rank of that stat.

But in A19, I think they have removed a skill or two (Or rather merged it's effects with another skill), and reduced the amount of skill points needed to max out some skills- It should require less than 303 skill points to acquire everything now. I'll tally up the total skill points required in a minute here and edit it into this post.

Edit:
Tallied it up. In total you need:
16 per Main Stat, x5 in total
41 for agility
43 for strength
39 for Fortitude
39 for Agility
37 for Intelligence
=
279 skill points, which you should have obtained all of at level 276. (You get 4 skill points for the starter questline; and don't get a sklill point for level 1 since you start there.)
