Am i misunderstanding how silencers work?
They don't seem to reduce noise much if at all.

The visibility gauge maxes out (from like 9-10) when firing one shot and everything in POI wakes up and knows where i am even zeds from different rooms.

I guess it's "realistic" but i was expecting them to work at least a bit better.

Tried it with Vulture and AR so far.

That's just kind of how it works with 7DtD. It does have the benefit of not causing as much "heat" in your local "heatmap", so you won't spawn screamers as much as someone using their firearm without a silencer. It's actually pretty helpful when you're bumrushing through a POI to quick clear it, but other than that, I would swap it for a barrel extender or muzzle break in most other situations.

It also has a damage penalty when you have one installed until you can complete the Urban Combat books too, so there's that to keep in mind.

Better off using crossbow or bow for true sneak kills though.

Ah dang.
I'll stick to the Compound Crossbow for clearing out sleepers then.

If you read the description of the 'silencer' it states that it works best with slower shooting weapons. The Vulture is freaking loud anyway so won't ever be totally silenced the way a regular pistol is. Same for the AK since it shoots quickly, unlike a rifle. Try it on the normal pistol and on a hunting rifle and note the difference. Those will be almost silent. However, on a harder hitting rifle or the Vulture, it works more like a normal suppressor would, lowering the reverberation of sound, 'lessening the 'heat' signature or activity' as Kryzx said.

He's also absolutely right about crossbows and bows being excellent for stealth kills in POIs. However, even a bit louder, a silencer on your AK or Vulture will save your bacon when things go sideways without calling in a screamer. They are worth it, especially once you complete the Urban Combat series. Except on horde night... switch it out for more distance and/or better control/accuracy for the horde.

Hmm tried it on the pseudo Dragunov rifle and it works indeed better on it.

Still not good for indoors but sneaky POI courtyard sniping and stuff like that. Works well i am not getting insta detected.
