Zed Rage mechanic
Seems like some things have changed with the Zed AI in 1.0 and they dont exactly behave like they used to. Can anyone explain the rage mechanic for 1.0 so I can better design my base?

Like I know its mostly based on distance fallen and distance from player, but what are the distances? How much fall damage do they take, etc?

Im also kind of tired of the standard melee horde base so I want to tinker with some other ideas, possibly incorporating traps.

Roughly falling 9 blocks from the player will enrage them from what I learnt from watching horde videos. Simply make the fall at least 11+ blocks to be on the safe side to avoid this mechanic if you use any form of zed dropper build.

If want to avoid rage mechanic when you build your horde base, take 2 things in mind:

1- If zeds take harm from falling will enter in rage mode, so mind to build something to not let them take any damage when they fall, like build an small semi-vertical ramp under where they fall.

2- Never, but never, make your horde base closed, if they cant have a way to reach you, they will start to destroy all your base until a path is cleared.

This, plus have a path for the rascals to follow back.

Yes that included my bad, there are a few videos up that can explain this all pretty well on youtube and some vids that show you how it works in action.

Ok see some people are saying 11 some 13, and I know things have changed over the years so some of it may be old information that doesnt apply anymore. Any idea on a maximum fall without the zeds taking any fall damage? Like can I have them fall 4 or 5 blocks and they dont take fall damage so they should never enter rage? Then I can path them through traps without them attacking anything.

From what I understand, it depends on how far away the fall takes place. There are videos that do a pretty good job of mapping it all out. Jawoodle, for one, there are others, but don't remember their names.

Edit, Cautious pancake (sp) I believe.

Currently living on a base on stilts 11 blocks high and I never get the rage mechanic when I open the door platform to drop zeds.

Ok Thanks. Ive tried two fighting platforms, one was 5 blocks off the ground and almost never takes damage, but the second I made was 9 or 10 high and the zeds beat the crap out of the base almost collapsing the whole thing on night 14. If I hadnt made it out of cobblestone, it would all be destroyed.

Jawoodle has found out that you have to be at least 15 blocks away from where they land for them not to enter destroy everything mode.

If you can reach the spots, why not place some spikes along the walls where they fall so they take so much bleed damage that they die on the way down? Can't enrage if they're dead...
