Finding Urban Combat books
I just wanted to say first that I have read threads on this subject to look for this answer.

I have read that no perks will increase the chance of finding urban combat books and i've also read that taking stealth perks will help increase the chance of finding urban combat books.

I just wanted to see if anyone has an answer on this. In Early Access games, these kinds of questions are always subject to change through development.

I really just wanted the last bonus of silencers not penalizing damage.

The only advice I have for this problem is to keep looting. Try to remember POIs which feature a lot of book racks/shelves. (Crack a Book, Crack a Book HQ, Crack a Cafe, St Moe's Cathedral, Richard Munz Plaza, Navezgane High, Grover High are the first ones that come into my mind). Accept trader quests in these POIs to reset the loot containers - especially the exhaustive ones. Also pay each of the 5 traders a visit when they have their restock day. They will always have at least 1 perk book in the inventory, sometimes even 2 or 3.

Yeah, i'll do that TY. I've almost completed a few magazine lines. I think my odds will increase once I max other magazines.

Unfortunately no mate - the game does not have the mercy to reduce odds of known perk books, even if you completed the whole series.

Oh, bummer. Oh well. I've hardly even hit up any bookstores so i'm sure it will be fine. I've only been on maybe 20% of the map/towns.

Thanks for the info

I usually (4 playthroughs) complete the Urban Combat and Nightstalker books series before any others, and I also put 3 early points into the stealth and sneak-damage perks before most others, so I think that info about perk-book influence is legit.

I often complete the series when I first visit the Wasteland and just ride around the city perimeter looking for Joel, stopping at each mailbox/newsbox I pass. That makes me think that lootstage might influence drop rates a bit (might be RNG, but it's been consistent that I find the last book or two I'm missing rather than copies of the ones I've got).

I was thinking of turning my build into kind of a stealth sniper build so I think i'm gonna go down the path you mentioned. I may just find out out if there's any hidden bonus. I only have 2/7 books on day 20 so i'm sure i'll be able to tell if perks or loot stage plays a roll from here on out.

Thanks

Hidden Strike increases the chance for Urban Combat.

copied straight from the XML, progression.xml entry for Hidden Strike:

<!-- Increase the chance to find Urban Combat books until each book is read -->
<passive_effect name="LootProb" operation="perc_add" level="1,5" value="2,10" tags="urbanProb">
<requirement name="ProgressionLevel" progression_name="perkUrbanCombatComplete" operation="LT" value="1"/>
</passive_effect>

Not quite true.

When you complete a perk book set all bonuses for that book set are removed. It isn't a 0% chance, but it is no longer an increased chance.

Thanks a lot, that clears things up. Yeah, I was thinking that the probability would go up if the other book bonuses dropped off upon completion of the magazine lines.

I'm currently taking hidden strike, so this should work out perfectly, or at least better.

Much appreciated
