How do I level the blades skill?

I've tried to use the bone knife for normal combat, even though it does suck unless u use a power attack, cutting trees down, breaking small rocks and even cutting grass, but none of that has worked, my skill is still 1. Do I need a skill magazine or something to level it up?

In order to use blades better (more damage etc.), put skill points into Deep Cuts. This will also increase your chances of finding blades, their parts AND Knife Guy magazines, reading of which will improve the quality when crafting bladed weapons.

there is different factors for your skills:
- main attribute (in this case agility)
- associated skill (deep cuts)
- books read (knife guy)

the quality of the knives you can craft is determined by the amount of books you have read for that skill.
the damage of the knives is determined by main attribute level and level of the skill for the tool/weapon.

what you probably mean is your knife crafting skill that is shown on the last tab of the skill page. that one only goes up by reading Knife Guy books which you can find anywhere you'd expect books and any weapon box. you find them with a higher chance and quantity the more you skill into Deep Cuts.
