no, your stuff should be fine (assuming no bugs). Respawn for chests is only supposed to affect empty chests.

Red Eagle:

I assume when you say "chests" that includes medicine cabinets, gun lockers, dressers, sinks, basicly anything...

If so, then that's actually REALLY good information Red Eagle. If there is ever a manual or official guide or anything posted, this one detail should be in there.

Many games that have respawning chests have a serious problem with deleting our loot, such as Skyrim.

Correct, all loot containers should be safe to use (assuming no bugs) as the respawn effect only occurs if the loot container is empty. I know I use a lot of cardboard boxes as they've got one of the largest storage counts (I miss when garageStorage cardboard boxes were even bigger).

Ok, one other loot related question then:

I set the Loot Respawn to 30 days, because I don't like being able to live off the quickly respawning houses. Does this also affect the bird nest and consequentially the amount of feathers/eggs?

On a side note, think there is a way to mod how long crops take to grow? I feel they grow to fast when you can make a really small farm and be pretty self sufficient.

Pretty sure it affects bird's nests as well. As for adjusting Growth rate it was something I was going to test but haven't yet. If you grab Grim's Unity Asset Editor you could give it a go, the planatable items have a parameter in models_5 for GrowthRate, most are set to 5 right now. I need some more file copy backups to finish before I can swap HDDs on my system as I've got a mirror in degraded state right now for my user data drive.

Is 5 just a number for growth rate that the system uses to calculate, or is that translated to 5 days? I was under impression they grow in about 2 days to full size, so to get a week/10 days I'd have to boost a 5 to 25, or possibly since it's a rate actually decrease it?

And while asking.. are you one of the creators or just a Modder? You are awefully knowledgable.

I do appologize to thread author for this sidetrack.

Don't apologize, it's good stuff. I have another question too, say I put some ammo in a cabinet, but there are some empty slots in the cabinet. After the respawn time, will loot spawn in the cabinets empty slots? Or does putting items in something stop it from spawning loot all together?
Muad'dib Jun 18, 2014 @ 5:01pm
I would assume it stops spawning all together myself.

Scripts are designed to do an "if" "then" function. And I would assume it is based on if "there is stuff in container" then "don't spawn stuff"

But I also am not a fan of containers magically respawning unless it makes sense, such as birds nests. Which is why I disable the respawn in my own games.

No it won't spawn.

If anything is in a container (as in you didn't fully loot it), it won't respawn contents.

Think of it this way:

Say you decide to use a found chest to store some stuff in, planning on using it as a storage container for that type of item.... Let's go with weapons.

So you come back and find a bunch of junk in your container while packing a full inventory of stuff to load into it.

Any way they do it it'd tick someone off so bettter to just set it as "no spawn" if holding than to set it as "well, check slot by slot so we can annoy them if they want to organize stuff..."

Red's a moderator here on the forums (post wrong & he'll move it around and the like).

He does mods for the game too - a real fan and supporter of the devs but not part of the development team - a volunteer here.

So is Jaga - another volunteer moderator.
