Forged Steel
To unlock forged steel, do I unlock it from a book or from a skill? I can't find a skill for this anywhere and when I go looting I can never find the book. The trader never has the book even though I've half unlocked better secret stash. Most of the stuff the trader has is junk and things we can easily craft.

Forged steel is unlocked by default, you don't need to unlock it.

The part that's tripping you up is that you don't have a Crucible, which is a required item to make steel. Obtain a crucible and put it in the relevant forge slot, and you can craft steel.

It's annoying I can't get the Crucible. In the PS4 version I don't need that. Instead of the Crucible there is a red box that looks like a box with spanners in it. I forgot what it's called and I've never needed that. I need to reinforce my concrete blocks and I need reinforced steel. In the PS4 version I need buckets of concrete mix. Even though the PC version is better with more in it, it's more awkward in places.

Can we craft pictures? In the PS4 version we can loot them. In the PC version we can't. The pictures in the PC version look better. I need pictures to brighten-up my bunker. My bunker looks like a posh house without windows under a farm house. I build a downstairs in my bunker with compartments for my storage crates, my workbenches, cement mixers and my chemistry stations with tunnels branching out all over the place and heading up all over the area where I'll be building concrete bunkers on the ground to stay safe when I kill the zombies. My tunnels have a brick effect that looks like the sewers without water. Yesterday, I dug up into a building and I'll fix-up the building and make it more secure. The handy thing about all this is if I'm out in the open and I'm out of ammo and I need to get to my bunker in a hurry, I have plenty of places to go into that lead into my tunnels that lead to my bunker so that I can get more ammo from storage. Even when I'm quite a distance from my bunker, I can still get to safety quick and go the rest of the way underground. All the mining sure gives a lot of stone and XP. One time I found an iron zone and I mined about 144,000 pieces of iron. The problem mining iron, sometimes the clay breaks lose and hit me in the head and whacks off some of my health.

At high levels you can find a crucible, at lower levels you can usually still occasionally find one at a trader.

At all levels (I think) you can find or buy the schematic for the crucible to craft it yourself.

If you crank points into Intelllect and crank all 5points into the crafting perk under Intellect (the one that lets you build the forge) you can build yourself the crucible without needing to find the schematic.

I think you can craft blank posters and pictures, but I don't think you can paint them anything that you can't already paint the walls.

I don't know if you can craft the pictures themselves. There are a few things where you craft a "general" version and then press-hold R to select from different shapes/options...like how you can craft lootable/storage bookshelves VS decorative-only bookshelves, and like how you can craft toilets, etc.
