All the info I could dig up says the battery quality does not affect anything when it comes to vehicles. The info on the wiki states the minibike has static speeds when driving normally and when you hit shift to go faster, it has no data to suggest that there's any difference when using a better battery in the minibike's construction.
If it's barely noticeable then my guess is that it isn't actually faster at all and you just THINK it's faster because it had a bigger number and your mind wants there to be a difference. Battery shouldn't affect speed anyway since it's not a battery powered vehicle, it's a gas powered vehicle but knowing TFP there could be a hidden effect or something buggy with the code that DOES make the speeds slightly different. I don't think there is based on my experience, but I haven't raced two bikes side by side to test it out.
The only thing that seems to matter is if someone's going up a steeper incline as that may slow the vehicle down slightly once the incline gets to a certain angle. My minibikes always slow down slightly when I bump into something that causes the bike damage like the dry wood in the desert. Maybe that's what the OP is experiencing and is assuming it's a difference due to battery quality.
How old was that video? How long ago did you watch it? I ask because it used to matter a LONG time ago, back when you could swap parts in and out of vehicles and when part quality actually made a difference. Is this person playing with any mods that might affect how vehicles work? In vanilla the battery quality should not be a factor but it might matter in a modded game.
Seems like they put part of that back in.
well i would agree .. but the thing is to sum up the enter test we did ... we raced a R1 battery minibike agaisnt R3 and i very much couldnt keep up with him according to the distance number (the little arrow) between us the distance increased by about 2.5 meters every second while driving even tho i was driving righ behind him tailing him ... then we tested R6 battery minibike against his R3 same setup, road and so on.. and this time the distance meter was showing about 0.2 meters with me beeing faster ... and its the second test where it was "barely" noticable 0.2 isnt a lot ... but i do agree that it might be a bug or something weird happening .... we also looked at the fuel consumption and it the same where my R1 bike ate fuel much faster than his R3 and my R6 seemed to use less than his R3... but again i agree it might be a bit buggy or something funky happening since everywhere i have looked there shouldnt be a difference...
My guess is your friend is hosting, and you are joining his game?
Coop hosted games with my brother have had some strange almost similar moments, and he lives 1 block over.
Wouldn't be shocked at all if it's buggy or they added some kind of small variable that I haven't seen in any of the patch notes. I guess I will have to do some testing. I have a Q1 battery minibike in one game I'm playing and have plenty of resources to make another one with a Q5 or Q6 battery. Won't be hard to run a simple test driving between two set points a couple times with each bike.
The minibike is supposed to move at 7 blocks/second, 10 if you use shift, and from what I've dug up there's not supposed to be any difference based on the battery or skill of the player putting the bike together. Fuel consumption should be the same as well, the only way that would appear to differ is if you have a larger tank on one of them, it would seem to use less fuel based on the percentage remaining.
