What is the best tool for salvaging items?
I'm trying to figure out which tool is best. The wrenches have their own skill line but so does the mining tools. Are the wrenches better than using pickaxes?

Depends on what you're salvaging. If you mean for electronic parts and such, then wrench, flat out. And don't try to 'salvage' a car with a pickaxe; It will blow up, and you will die.

The wrench is THE tool for dismantling anything and everything; It gets drops from things that when broken with a pickaxe or axe you dont get.

EG: If you've been mining up beds with an axe/pickaxe, You've been missing out on springs and some other various items. Mining up a light fixture with a pickaxe is liable to only reward you with scrap iron; but with a wrench it gives electrical parts.

Well crap. I have been salvaging the wrong way. I've been using just pickaxes this entire time.

Haha, Oof. Live and learn. :) There's a reason they have separate skills. ^-^

Wrenches. The other stuff is for harvesting from nodes or breaking ♥♥♥♥.

Yeah, so Wrenches are 100% for salvaging anything and pickaxes only for mining. Got it. I'm still learning

Just keep in mind that there's a few oddball cases on what tool you're supposed to use.

If you break into a school and see a bunch of school desks, you would think a wrench would take those desks apart nicely. But nope, you use a fire axe to break it for scrap polymers.

You've also probably seen those hazardous body bags and want to knife them for some bones and rotten meat, right? I mean, that's what you've been doing to the animals and those roadkill carcasses, and it even says in the perk tree that you use the knife to gut bodies, so you use the knife, right? Incorrect sir, again the fire axe is the tool for hacking up those body piles.

The general rule is, if it takes more than 5 hits to break it down, it's probably not the right tool. If it does the most damage to the block, it's probably the right tool.

I always used a shovel or chainsaw for those body bags honestly. But I'll make sure to bring an axe with me instead
