I was wondering...
Is it possible to get 7 dayz to die when it first came out? where the map was really small and cars usually had guns and everything? I'm playing the earliest version possible and it is really fun because you don't really have to craft at all, you can find tools in cars like axes, sledge hammers which makes breaking into buildings barricaded and stuff fun, I had a really good adventure and didn't craft a single item, a really good experience just real casual, but It's not like the first release where there were guns a plenty.

The game is using Steam. Pre A5 is pre-Steam so requires extra setup/

Others have tried to play old versions too. Limited success.

The only way to play any version before 8.0 is to know someone who kept backups of those versions of the game. I still have A6 or A7 somewhere in my mess of hard drives.

It is possible to download A5 and A7 from steam using information and tips in a guide mentioned in Shaded's second reference. An updated link to the guide is https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/11268-guide-how-to-download-almost-every-past-steam-version-of-7-days-to-die-from-steam/

A6 seems to be gone. And it's possible A5 and A7 are gone now too but it worked earlier this year when I tested it.

Also, (from what I've read) the very first versions were so rough around the edges that they weren't considered worth playing. And, the next few versions were basically the same game, just fixed up to work better. So, in theory, you shouldn't be 'missing' anything by playing the aforementioned versions (like A5 or 7) as opposed to A1, 2, 3, 4. But, having no personal experience with those very early versions, I can't be sure what I said is completely accurate.
