Only if you want to play the new update. You are not forced to update.

This. It’s because the new updates often break current save games.

Yeah, I think the whole map is generated when you first create a save game. And theirs no infinite generation either so your flat out of luck their as well. But let’s say for instance their is infinite gen and the map is procedurally generated, the save game will still not work with a newer alpha, as too many things change. I think one of them is that sometimes they might change the ID of items, or remove/change a mechanic entirely.

You still have AT LEAST 2 months before the update. More than enough time to explore the entire map, get bored, start another one and so on.

So don't worry too much, retarting on a new map is part of the fun in this game. Level up in another way, explore new cities, make your own challenge by limiting yourself to a no trader runfor example.

The new update will bring a slew of new stuff, progression, POIs and items wise. So don't sweat it and keep playing for now.

You ALWAYS have to restart in a new alpha version.

Why would you not want to anyways? New environments n such.

Mostly if you want to keep all what you build in your world & if can't load a19 party in a20, there's a way but only if they don't change the style save of the game & mostly if the region files a19 can be use in a20...

Backup (part 1) you party.
In your party, go note coordinate where you build something.
Go delete all region files here:
C:\Users\"your windows account"\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves\"map name"\"name of your party"\Region
Re-go in game, active dev mode & then use teleport by using previous coordinates.
& then backup (part 2) all files in the region folder.

Something like that...

You will create the same world with the same name seed in a20, then copy region from backup (part 2) in region of your party a20...

If not, you can export what you build into a prefab & edit them in a20...

That's what I do with save a18 to a19.

Now just wait a20 to see if it's possible...
I could be wrong but I dont think this is a good idea because the nature of the game itself is changed. Block types are going to be removed. What if your current base has those removed block types in it? Now I am certainly not the authority here but I even suggest wiping 7 from your system completely before installing a new update, including your saves in the roaming file. That being said I have never tried your suggestion and you may have knowledge I do not posses.

Navezgane is premade(if it still exists), everything else is generated when you start the game.
If you want to see new POIs and NOT see your world broken, you need to start anew with each and every major update.

I don't watch stream a20 but I don't think block type will be removed because that will make no sence...

Even I know that some game who do in this way, like destroy a block to collect a block structure who can be use directly to craft directly into a block stone/iron/cement, if it's in this way, that will be very crap at all...

if not for my sugestion, IDK too, I just propose a idea in any case... But when a20 will go out & then I will try & I recome back here to said if it's really posssible...
(But it's not a full replace world map, that's just replace some little part of the world map)
Block types are being reduced to just 4. Does it make sense, we will see I guess. And I know you weren't endorsing that idea, just putting it out there if anyone wanted to try. All good.
