No other way besides magazines. Put skill point(s) in Advanced Engineering and you should have higher chance of finding Forge Ahead-magazines. Try finding Crack-a-Book stores and raid them.

You can eventually buy the forge and workbench from vendors - but really it's better to craft them. Put a skill point into lock picks to get favored drops for workstation magazines

Don't put any skill points into anything but your main melee weapon skill, so pummel pete for example + advanced engineering. Once you have the work bench, 2 to 3 days ingame add 2 points into vehicles. Once you unlock the motorbike your good to go put points anywhere you like because the rest isn't a problem.
Save all your items and sell EVERYTHING to get the crucible it will show up in the trader you will only need 12.5k to buy it with sugar butts. Dont waste time beating into safes and chests. Dont waste time looting houses, Do jobs + get the main stash if its easy, If its just a fetch Dont loot just get the item and get another job.
The quest rewards are not great but you can get magazines fast this way. Dont read any magazines that are not forge ahead, vehicles, armoured up, medicine or your melee weapon. Save the rest in a chest to read once you have the work bench + motorbike.
Loot cement mixers and workstations, they have workstaions books, the cement mixer every time, loot all the workstaions in the traders.
yep, just visit construction sites and construction equipment.. I normally have one by day 3

Dont use advanced engineering if you're under 15 Workstations.

Put all your points into Lockpicking (dumb, but keep reading) and you go farm the ♥♥♥♥ out of Forge Ahead books - then go learn them all. Once you go past 15 Forge Ahead books "lockpicking" stops adding a bonus.

Why is this a preferred method? Advanced Engineering increases the odds of finding FOUR books, hence never greater than a 25% chance to find a "Forged Ahead" with the perk.

I think it was one of the full challenge reward lines I did where a workbench was a reward, too. Granted, by that time I was maybe 3 pages shy of unlocking it anyway, but that is another option. I'll see if I can recall which one it was later tonight.
