How do you "Use" magazines?

So I guess they are supposed to help you craft things, but how do you use or "read" them? Do you left click on them, right click on them? Do they have to be in your hand, or in your inventory or in a storage box? Do you have to read them in a certain order?

I left clicked on a couple of them, and they just disappeared, but there was no popup screen saying anything had happened. I don't want to waste them. I also have some sort of bundle from an airdrop. Is that the same as regular magazines?

With a magazine selected, assuming you're on PC, you should see the option to "Use (A)" or something like that; it's A to use (consume).

Airdrop skill magazine bundles (and similar, like bundles you get as quest rewards) unpack into a small selection of random magazines, usually 2 each of 3 kinds. These are the same as magazines you find in other loot; just use them and your skill goes up.

When you use a magazine, you'll see an indicator on the lower-right of your screen showing that you've gained points in the relevant crafting skill.
