Question About 1.0 Releases
So June 24th is the Experimental release for public, If we make a world in Experimental, will it be able to be used once Stable is released or will we have to restart, Because I'm kinda getting tired of starting over worlds over and over again when I make so much progress in one and have to start another.

Most likely (IMO, like 98-99+%) your save will be forward compatible through to stable and through all the minor stable updates.

However, carrying a save through experimental into stable and beyond is likely to cause some more minor issues that are themselves likely fixable with CM/DM.

Historically, yes. Provided nothing major comes up, the experimental save will be compatible with the stable build. Though you may experience minor issues from continuing an experimental save into the stable, It shouldn't require a restart the way going from one major build to the next does. And any issues that do come up would likely be remediable w/ debug or creative mode.

Thank you for the heads up.

PS: if you use mods,,,,, they will have to be updated to the new version of 7d2d. dont forget.
That might give problems,,,

I use the mod launcher apparently makes a separate version of the game in your drive, I mainly play the game vanilla, I've been trying War3zuk and it's pretty wild so far, But thank you for that reminder anyway.

1.0 experimental to 1.0 stable save compatibility?
Will it be possible to continue onto 1.0 stable version with a 1.0 experimental save?
Nerevar Jun 16, 2024 @ 7:51pm
save to assume yes. was the same before. the stable release is just extra bugfixes which work retroactively within the same version most the time. extra content is rarely added during experimental branch.

When a21 experimental came out I think they did a good handful of game wipes / forced restarts. Probably gonna be that way between a22 experimental and 'stable.' Although it could also depend on the nature of the various tweaks done. Like if all they have to do is fix a couple logic issues in the code, maybe it'll be compatible. But if they have to completely change blocks or something you're losing that save for sure.

just dont go on a longterm playtrough right the first week i would say. not that i will play during first 2 weeks anyway myself. they choose elden ring dlc and steam summer sale as thier experimental release dates^^ so they need to find others to test for them.

JMO. I always play EXP like throwaway or getting used to the new stuff games until stable drops. What do I lose? Some wasted hours Ima gonna play anyway? lol. Each Alpha update was always no saving the previous version game saves and had to start new games on the next alpha but exp to stable stable? Not sure I follow. Why would I save experimenta game? Just me now. But I play exp a little and get to know the new stuff, then play the hair off the stable:-)

it's usually okay to start with a fresh game and continue the same save between minor updates, but not always. It all depends on the what they change and you have to read the notes.

For example, they have had a ton of issues with the drones since they released it and they tried to fix it in A21. If someone installed A21.0 and started a save then it was fine. But A21.1 they started to work on drones even more and it did cause some problems on our servers. And even A21.2 caused some issues for some people in solo play.

So again, it all depends on what they change,

That wasn't even remotely the question. He asked if a save will carry over, that's all.

There won't be an experimental build, right? RIGHT? Because they said the next thing is the 1.0 release.
You can't RELEASE a game into an experimental (early access) build.

It is? I can't play it and I opted in for unstable experimental.... so how the heck?

It's not in experimental yet. Streamer weekend will happen first starting on the 21st, experimental on the following monday most likely, the 24th, and then if all goes well, 1.0 stable in late July, the 25th.

The date for stable is still an estimate and not a concrete date, and the specific time and/or day for the experimental may shift if something major crops up over the weekend.
