old saves never get deleted but wont get the new changes and content.
since it doesnt take that long to max out a character and build in a22 i dont see them changing this. there just isnt enough content and progress to make it persistent.
New loot items (weapons, armor, food) would not require a restart, but new POIs would require a new map.
It's not just you. A lot of players feel invested in the world they have created. That's part of the magic of this game.
The best answer anyone has, is it's only a small chance we will HAVE to restart. Otherwise as noted above you would only restart if you want the new map features etc.
It really depends on what bugs are found during the public experimental phase. And no one can predict that. Not even the developers. Some things actually do 100% require a restart. But there's no indication I have seen that major bugs have been found which require save breaking changes.
So we all keep our fingers crossed along with you. But if we all do have to restart a new world, we knew that was a possibility going in. And we all accepted that by playing an experimental version.
