Its for 1 month in Experimental BETA so they can squash the last few bugs players discover.
Then on July 25th there will be the official public release of 1.0 and it will become the default version for everyone.
Basically the same way they handled every new Alpha release for the last 10 years, a period of BETA access to opt in then followed by the public release.
when i launch the game i still says alpha 24.1 how do i get the 1.0 update?
If you haven't, then you need to do
Right click on the game in steam
Click on properties
Click the “betas” tab
The drop down menu will now have latest_experimental available <— you want THAT
Select that and wait for the game to download
If I make a new save with the beta, when it officially is out, will it override my current save?

You can opt in for the experimental version tho.
And you already own the game, so you won't have to pay anything.
