Concrete questions
so it seems like there is more than one way to get a concrete block.

I could start with a Wood Frame and upgrade it 4 times (wood, reinforced wood, cobblestone then concrete)
or...
I could start with a Rebar Frame and just add Concrete.

Is one method better than the other? I mean I know 4 upgrades will be more XP but is the Rebar based block stronger?

After concrete, you can upgrade to reinforced concrete as well, but either way, you are achieving the same same results by the end. The wood path exists for when you are starting small and just slowly upgrading over time. The rebar path exists later on when you have the resources and unlocked recipes to do it all at once. Of course some may still use the longer wood-concrete method later on in game, just for the extra experience.

You can also get concrete blocks from cement mixers (I forgot the recipe for them) and just place it down that way. One benefit of this is that you can change the shape of the concrete before placing it.

Cobble to concrete 10 mix
Concrete to reinforced concrete 10 mix
Rebar to reinforced concrete 20 mix

Wood currently has more shapes than rebar
Flagstone blocks cost 10 cobble then require 10 cobble to upgrade to cobblestone.
Currently i use wood to get the fancy shapes

Flagstone blocks wet concrete blocks ( made in cement mixer) are ways to get the odd shapes.

Unless things have changed (or I was misinformed to start with) when the blocks get destroyed they revert to the previous stage so the wood frame - concrete actually last a little longer but take longer and more resources than the rebar method.

Iron blocks destage
Steel blocks destage to reinforced concrete
Wood tier 2 destage to wood tier 1 then to wooden frame
Window barricades destage
Iron hatch 3 stages 1000 health each
Vault hatch 3 stages 7000 health each
Iron doors have multiple stages 2500 health
Havent tried it but Vault doors likely have multiple stages

Concrete , reinforced concrete , cobblestone, flagstone do not destage.
Im sure there are some i forgot

Thats the way I remember it, so it was actually better to take the long route because a pure c block destroyed equals nothing left... but like you , I dont know if this has changed

There is also the time factor.... if you place wood frames, upgrade them twice with wood, once with cobblestone and once with concrete, you have to wait for the block to dry before you can upgrade to reinforced concrete. And then it needs to dry again.

Rebar needs only to be upgraded once, so it doesn't matter that it needs to dry... the block is done after one upgrade, you don't need to touch it again.

And it's quite cheap because (with some perk points in Advanced Engineering) you only need four stones to create one concrete mix:

- One stone needs to be crushed to sand in the cement mixer
- Forging one cement costs 10 stones resource in the forge. But 1 stone melted in the forge counts as 5 stones resource, so effectively one cement costs 2 stones (10/5=2).
- And one to combine with the the cement and the sand to get one concrete mix in the cement mixer.

Since filling a rebar with concrete mix costs 20 mix, that would be 20x4 = 80 stones for upgrading the rebar to reinforced concrete. With some perk points and a good tool, 80 stones is nothing... breaking a stone block gets you much more than 80 stones.

Of course the rebar costs some metal and clay as well, but it is really cheap.

That only counts for wood blocks as they get downgraded to wood frames. Same with iron. After that they get destroyed.
Until you have reinforces concrete, which will get downgraded to concrete.

So you're basically doing it for the extra XP

K thanks for clearing that up.

Concrete , reinforced concrete , cobblestone, flagstone do not stage down.

used to though, but that was when they first allowed you to hit wood and turn it into cobblestone or I think even metal blocks.....
