Should i Mod the game now? or wait 1.0?
i've been playing this for 1.5 year now. but stopped when i move and enjoying another game and stays there for quite a long time. so yea ive been gone from this game for quite a while actly

now i have downloaded the game again, and yes i did mod the game in the past with proly about 30-40+ mods in it. i know usually mods will break the moment a big update happen in the game that prty much overhaul and change lots of stuff.

so with now 1.0 changes is on the way, shld i just play this casually for now or just go with the mods again? (im thinking about this bcz im wondering if the 1.0 update will break lots of the big mods or not)

i know smaller mods like simple vehicle and weapon proly won't be affected that bad, i just don't want the big mods to cause crash on my game lol (cuz its pain to get rid of which 1 did it, and mostly i just get rid of everything cuz there's a lot)

any thoughts and suggestions?

I would expect like any new Alpha, it'll break things, and not be worth looking back on. And being the new Meta, will likely break more.

But being a sandbox title, I've never dumped more than 200 hours in a world, even on 120-minute days for creative building mega-structures.

I waited and my save broke entirely... :(
Like it wouldn't be able to boot entirely, since they changed how saves were done... but i can't do anything about it, so the game died for me.

So yes, just wait til the 1.0 update comes out, and then do a new save.
I did play with mods back in the day, but my main save wasn't modded, i just wasn't around for awhile since i was out of the country for awhile.

When i came back, and booted up the game, the save didn't even appear, since it was not in the right location, i tried everything to boot it, and nada. modded save was lost to.

So now i'm just waiting for an official release version, before i ever come back to this game.

In the OP's situation I would do what I normally do, what I did for A20 and A21.

i) Mod my secondary installation of 7DTD (you can make one by simply copying and pasting the entire game to a different location and running the game from the exe in that location). Play that now.

ii) Let my primary installation update to A22/1.0 whenever that's released and then decide whether I want to carry on playing modded A21 from my secondary installation or start a new game in vanilla A22/1.0 from my primary installation.

Most mods you will find are quality of life enhancers, and do little to nothing. There are some total conversion modes. That being said none of the modes will work come 1.0 so you might as well fool around with them now. Hope that answers your question.

I started playing a couple of weeks ago with the 7DVR mod, if you have VR equipment i would highly recommend it, it has quickly became my favourite VR game, although the mod is not perfect (weapon scopes not working yet, hopefully work when it is updated) it is a lot of fun, i'm on day 80 now, creeping stealthily through the POI's, riding around on my motorbike, horde nights in VR & generally just exploring the map in VR is fantastic, can't wait till i get my hands on a gyro copter, heard they are great in VR.

As you wish.

Are you the type that likes to play for 30 hours or so on a save and then start over and play through again several times before you get bored and take a break with other games? If so then start now and it won't be any big deal. If not, then wait.

No worries. I only know for the same reason you now know - I read it in a post on this forum. It's not common for a game nowadays to install as cleanly as 7DTD does.

It's also useful for having different games with different mods on them.

The only drawback is that it takes up more drive space, but 7DTD is a small small installation by modern standards. I just had a quick look - my second installation takes up just under 17 GB of drive space. Next to nothing in a time when 1000 GB is a small capacity for a drive.

I run the second installation from a shortcut on my desktop. I think it's possible to add it to the Steam client as a different game if you want, but I'm not sure about that.
