24 auto turrets and they all worked.
You can have as many SMG/Shotgun turrets as you want. But if you want more than one active ROBOTIC turret then you have to max out the Robotics inventor perk. Then you can have 2 active robotic sledge or turrets.
Aside from the cargo carrying capacity, I find the best use of the drones is when I'm exploring or constructing, they serve as an early warning when zombies are approaching. Also, their headlight mod can be useful at night or when working underground.
More than willing to try it again if they add a combat capability but for now, I just personally dont see enough benefit to make it a constant companion.
Robotic turrets are a different matter, though. The sledge and junk turret are good friends and work well once you learn how to use them to fit your personal play style. Everyone plays the game differently and you will find their place if you keep working at it. At the highest perk tier, you can have two of them active at a time, and that doesn't include your drone.
Electrical turrets are limited only in the amount of juice and ammo you provide them. You can have one for backup support on the roof as an anti-buzzard thing, and no others. OR, you can line your walls with turrets, load them up with ammo and lots of electrical power and watch them mow down zombies. I've done it all sorts of ways and it's all fun. You'll learn what works best for you as you play.
