You mean the crucible? No easy or fast way to get it, you need to get enough workstation magazines (Forge Ahead) to learn it. You can get lucky and find it from some trader or loot but it's pretty rare item. Put points in Advanced Engineering so you can find more workstation magazines to unlock it faster and also have slightly higher chance to find it from elsewhere.

If you are talking about the crucible, it's not that rare in my experience. Almost always I'm able to buy one from a trader long before I can craft one. Expensive though, 15,000 dukes or so.

I think different traders have different priorities (like Jen's being health and chemistry and what not) so a specific trader might have slightly higher chance re: something like a crucible?

But yeah it's pretty rng rare to just find/buy.
Traders do sell magazines as well, so if you find any of the type needed, buy 'em up.
And if you're desperate/don't care, you can just turn cheats on/open that item menu and give yourself stacks of magazines to read. :P

I haven't really looked at traders inventory closely for a while (since I generally play not using them for anything) but typically how it would go when I did is - they'd have some rare thing you might want in the first few days of the game (like a motorcycle) when you couldn't afford it, then never have it again. Hahahaa...

I remember when beakers were super rare for many but I think I saw that Jen ends up with those a fair bit these days. Maybe crucibles are the same now.

Another thing to consider for A21 is that the perks you invest in affect your loot. In one of my last playthroughs I went hard into Intelligence/Engineering (maxed both by day 10, I was going to play with Electric Traps) just so I could make my own crucible as early as possible, but around day 10 I found a crucible in a Working Stiff truck. I normally don't find one that early (thus I was spending points towards making my own), and it could be one heck of a coincidence, but the A21 patch notes mention that your perks affect loot (not just magazine probability).
