How to rotate things? (SOLVED)

I have been told I have to hold the object and then press 'R' for a advanced menu but I can't get it to work.
I select say a door and it there selected and ready to place, I press 'R' but nothing happens, no menu or wheel appears. I know it must be something simple I'm missing. Can anyone take me through the procedure step by step, I'm pretty thick so I need things explained to me? :D

Pressing R is how you rotate objects. Each object comes with a preset alignment ---aka pressing R on a wood block will only only rotate 4 ways and not upside down unless you select 'advanced' in the radial menu.

HOLDING R will bring up a radial menu where you can select the 'advanced' option.

That's just it, pressing 'R' does nothing. I can't think of what is wrong. I know I can turn stuff around with my LMB, place with RMB, but that's all I can do. Why can I not get to the radial menu up?[

Put the block in your toolbox (the lower bar), then highlight it and then hold R to bring up the radial menu. Then select Advanced.

After you select advance, you can rotate the object in every direction you want.

Darn it, I am so stupid. You know what I had done? Remapped the key way back when I started the game. I must have changed 'R' to 'delete' with being left handed.
So even when I went over the keyboard pressing every key I left out the delete key.
I am so stupid, sorry for wasting your time guys.
