lock pick menu does not work for me

I have always found lock picks and didn't know how to use them, I looked up a video showing how to use them and it said to hold E or interact button, but for some reason that never works. For me, there is no lock pick menu making lock picks useless so that leaves me to just break anything I want access to. Does anyone know what I'm suppost to do to use lock picks?

You should be able to hover over the safe and just press E (assuming there are lockpicks in your inventory.) This starts the timer and if you make it all the way, the safe unlocks.

Of note, Lock picking only works on safes and locked chests; You cannot lockpick doors. So if you're trying to lock pick a door, that's likely why you're not able to see the lockpick in the hold-e-to-interact menu.
