Is there a way to reload a save from a previous point?
Here's what happened: I've been playing this latest update: A21.1 for the past month. I'm on day 74. I've been getting super far-- my base is optimized, my skill tree is maxed out in a lot of areas. I'm able to build every vehicle (something I've worked VERY hard to get), I'm able to cook all meals, build most tools. I'm climbing the ladder of building sweet weapons and traps.

I've also been deliberately playing this game with Steam in offline mode, for the simple reason that I don't want the next update to make my current game unplayable (something that happened before).

Yesterday I put Steam back into online mode to check a few other games in my library for updates, then went offline again. Booted up my save for 7 Days to Die, only to discover I'm back at the spawn point as if it's an entirely new game that I just started.

My inventory that I'd been carrying is totally gone-- my chainsaw, my maxed out shotguns, my tools, my motorcycle, all of it. My base is still in tact, with everything where I'd left it. But my skills are all back at 1. I can't build anything, because I have to find magazines all over again. And I have to level up as though this is completely new save.

Is there some way to restore everything to how I had it? Or at the very least, is there a way to admit defeat and enable a cheat console to give me back all my skill points, level, and weapons? I'm fed up, and about to just say "F*ck this game" and rage-quit all together.

Unless you are making actively copies of save file, its ironman baby.

I think offline play stores the saves in another location, and when online its either in its normal location or you are saving to cloud. Your save is probably around somewhere.

After every game exit, I do a manual copy of the save file with a date. Its just good policy.
Though I haven't experienced it, I've heard of vehicles disappearing and map chunk resets.

As mentioned by Katitoff, the only way to revert back to exactly what you had is if you made backups of your save. There are no cloud saves or anything. I run a simple windows batch script regularly that does this for me.

Instead of running offline mode, a better way to keep steam from updating the game is to copy the game folder to another location and run it from there. Just copy ...\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die to somewhere your user has read and write access to. Then create a shortcut on your desktop to the exe file.

You can get back what you had with the console.

Press F1 to open the console.
Type 'cm' without the quotes and press return to enable creative mode.
Press F1 to close console.

Now you can press U to open the creative menu and find all the items you lost. You can also grab books and magazines to read. Then turn off creative mode by typing cm in the console again, or just restart the game.

For the levels you can use the giveselfxp command. Open the console again with F1 and then enter

giveselfxp xxxxxxx

where xxx is some number of points. Keep doing this until you're back to your level.

This will give you back your unlock points also except for those initial 4 points at the beginning. You can get those back with the console command

givequest test_turnin2

and then just speak to a trader. One of the rewards is 5 skill points, so you get 1 free one for all your trouble.

Oh, and make a backup of your save before you do all this in case of mistakes.

I'll have to use the Creative mode, I guess. I mean, at least I can instantly recover my lost goodies and my old unlocks. It's a bummer that it came to that, for what is a dumb glitch. But whatever. This whole thing took the wind out of my sails. I guess I'm just going to "sandbox" my game play and leave Creative mode active, and just amass a kingdom without putting in the work.

Thank you all for the help and feedback.
