The game has also always been luck based. Finding vital recipes and items was always a crapshoot, but now you get steady and predictable progress. I think there are a few things that need to be tweaked, like the amount of magazines in a few of the series. Aside from that though, the system is almost perfect for what the devs want you to do in the game loop.
Jars are gone for item management in overall game play. Water is still there with an option to horde away, just not with empty jars.
There is always the door strategy.
Just today i started a new game, the fourth after the new patch launched, i started near a POI 4, (the big house with a big elevator and the bunker down), i knew where the end room was, killed 2 zombies and looted it, (a machined pipe gun lvl 3 and some bullets were waiting for me) and still lvl 1.
With the gun, i spent bullets only to hunt animals and fast kitchen's run, at night of the first day i ended with 40 read teas (min-max) and 3 stacks of meat.
Im an expert player? no, still a noob, but, the ppl who complains... what they are?
I honestly thought id have MUCH LESS water taking up space in chests/crates since the 21 Update. I am already at like 5 or 6 stacks of water taking up space, its actually slightly better than it was before.
In 20, i could have easily filled up a crate with the amount of water i had, i literally had stacks of it, plus like, 200 bottles of murky water (which stack to some unknown amount - to me at least) and i just left them because i didn't have the space to make them into normal water.
There's no need to hunt magazines if you just need stuff.
You can simply loot what you need if you don't like magazines and books.
And yes, the game is now more tied to your game stage and level.
You need to earn your stuff.
Aliens teleport it away. There's a thriving market for glass jars that humans have drunk out of, the fresher the better. It's probably best not to ask why the market exists and what the customers do with the jars.

same thing that happens to the brass when you fire a round or scrap ammo
same thing that happen to the gas can when you fill up your 4x4
same thing that happens to the case of the first aid kit after you use it
same thing that happens to the can when you eat can chillie
same thing that happens to the bottle when you drink awesome sauce
same thing that happens to acid when you scrap a lead acid battery
same thing ......
Its a video game and there is a lot of stuff that is not there or as been removed that realistically should be there. But its not and often it is because it would bog things down.
To be clear I agree that keeping jars would be nice. But honestly water is such a non-issue don't even miss them anymore I used to throw away stacks of them in A20 already so it does not bother me they are no long cluttering up my inventory
But if it really bothers you there is at least 3 mods on the nexus and 7daytodiemods that put jars back in the game for you.
Can't be clearer than that IMO.
