The new stuff is fun and you may very well enjoy starting again. Your old game will be safe, in the meantime, but I do recommend that you use the backup feature and store your old game in a separate folder, then TOTALLY clean your game of all old data and mods before downloading and enjoying alpha 21. It's worth the effort!
EDIT: and, it's always possible to go into god mode and just GIVE yourself stuff you want.
For A it may be possible to export your base as a prefab, convert it to A21 and then place it in a new world. There is a console command prefabupdater used to "update prefabs for newer game builds". I've meant to try it sometime on an A19 base I built but documentation is almost non-existent. Here is a short topic about converting A20 to A21, https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/32011-convertingupdating-a20-prefabs-to-a21/
