Cooking Pot? Water?
I've not played 7D2D in a year + and the new changes have me a little confused. I can't boil water WITHOUT a cooking pot anymore? What's the best solution to finding one other than a forge? Can you not find purified water anymore or am I severely unlucky? I'm on day 5 and this is....odd..

Any other early game tips are welcome. It's been a long time.

Help hugely appreciated, thanks.

Murky water is the new meta. You have to loot it. Cooking pots can be found in kitchens as loot or you can buy them from the trader. Dew collectors create water. Filters can be bought at the trader.
Traders sell them for around 600 dukes each, they're common there. Some POI's do have them as a guaranteed item, in particular the small roadside food wagons you can find in towns and cities, you'll find it sitting on the shelf.
Other than that? Loot ovens in residential homes and fast food POI's and cross your fingers, but the trader will likely be your best bet. Getting enough skillbooks to get a forge isn't hard either, especially if you look for Cement Mixers in construction POIs
There are low-risk "wilderness" POI's/cabins that have pots in their kitchens, sitting on counters etc. Can't tell you what their names are tho. At any rate, some POI's (in towns/cities too ofc) do have them, as already mentioned. Just hard to randomly find them at times if you don't have the ones memorized. >.>

Dew collectors for looting dew collector water filter chances (it's a small chance) seem to be slightly easier found in some of the wilderness POI's as well, at least in RWG maps. Like at some of the small motorhome enclave types.

At this point it's almost easier to just sell enough to buy at least the first dew water filter and a cooking pot, even if one generally tries to ignore Traders. If only because that starter quest just sends you to a Trader nearly first thing anyway. Which is not to say one MUST use a Trader, but it is often more difficult now, unless your start is very lucky. Or one fiddles with files/mods etc.

You're also allowed to drink directly from rivers, ponds, etc. Select an empty slot on your tool belt then face the water for a couple seconds and the drink-action becomes available. Just like drinking a jar of murky water, you'll take 5 damage, gain 10 water, and maybe get Dysentery.

I don't know what Dysentery did in previous alphas, but in A21 it does nearly nothing (uses up food/water a little faster, but murky water's free anyways). If you run out of food or water then you don't die (you lose life, it would take about 30 minutes real-time for that to kill you). With zero water you don't refill Stamina at all (so drink or you'll be restricted to walking, jumping up, looting, and using ranged-weapons). Dysentery maxes at 100% (30% per event), but it's not fatal. 100% Dysentery cures itself in about an hour real-time.

I would never get dysentery willingly. No stamina = you can do nothing.
One poi I keep my eye out for is the big saloon + post office. Right inside the post office door is a pot on the counter. Yeah 2-3 zombies spawn in the ceiling and drop down but it's not sweat. Don't loot the entire building, but in that room are bookshelves. Go outside and around to the side diner to the right. Again 2-3 zombies in there but its a kitchen you will likely find water to cook. There is a cop in the building and a dog in the back yard so don't delve too far day1.

Dysentery does not affect stamina regen or max stamina in A21. Having zero water prevents all stamina regen (there's still a lot you can do though without using stamina), and having low food reduces max stamina (shouldn't be a problem if you regenerate stamina well, use actions that don't use much stamina (via perks or Ergonomic Grip mod), or if your max stamina is still over 100).

Role-playing is fun though. I've got a team mate right now that refuses to drink Gutter, which is fine since it's exclusively what I drink. It kinda sucks that he drinks all the Golden Rod Tea rather than quenching most of his thirst with the bucket we keep in the bathroom and then using a Tea to settle his Runnytumtum.
