They can even be upgraded to cobblestone etc for added durability.
You are correct, that is what I was hoping for, sadly.
Maybe even a flat plate shape over top so the bump is less? I never really pay close attention to POI garages
Actually, that is a good point, I should have checked those out. The floor of the garage of the POI i am in was terrain before I replaced it, but there's got to be garages in the 2 towns near me that will help, thanks for the idea!
Query, how/where would I share a screenshot? I took one of my driveway, and one each of a couple different POI's, showing what I have and what the POI's have (that I want). If it is truly not possible without the mod suggested by JOST AMMAN - a mod I am unsure of - then I will have to use some sort of cover as suggested previously.
You can use "sheets" to cover the gaps - they are flatter than "plate" and are essentially invisible height wise when placed on ground/on top of other blocks. And then use paint to give them a gravel or concrete look.
If you are less concerned with mega-defense, because of difficulty settings or a separate "horde base", say, you can also use asphalt as the block that is 1 block below ground level (instead of player building blocks), thus it will "merge" with ground level asphalt/terrain you place next to it. Has less hit points than concrete tho, of course.
Making them a little more useful as a below-ground block that can still merge with ground terrain for a few specific purposes.
Otherwise, yeah, sheet-shape and paint only other way in vanilla.
I did, and I found the 1/2 sheet block did nicely for a cover while being all but unnoticeable, but I am still looking for if there is a better solution.

So the first 2 are POI's where the terrain of the driveway butts up against the blocks of the POI, and the 3rd is mine, before I covered the edges with sheeting.
