Can you gather water from standing water?
I keep seeing conflicting information and I think its from different versions. Can you collect water from say a pool?

You used to, but A21 changed this mechanic. You can drink from it, if you don't mind the risk of dysentery (at least if you don't have a specific helmet mod), but you can no longer gather water from standing water because the jars you used to gather water with no longer exist in A21.

Wanna play together? I'm new at this game.

You can gather the water with a bucket, that is the only way to gather water now. Take that bucket to your base and pour it out and you have an infinite supply of murky water to drink from.
The only other option is to drink directly from water sources. Have nothing equipped in you hands, look down at the water and press E. You will drink from the water. There is a chance you will get dysentery from it though till you get the water filter helmet mod.

I wouldnt recommend this. Do a quest on day 1 to get some money and spend it on a cooking pot and grill. Water is more important than food so get the pot first
Water affects stamina regen while food affects max stamina so being dehydrated can get you killed pretty easily early on

Hi Jimmy, when you say pour it out, what do you pour it out into and does it never deplete? This would be better for us as we have water filter mods in our helmets and the water in the rain collectors could be put to better use, like cooking.

So, you can take a block of water and pour it in a constructed well and you could drink from it infinitely? :lunar2019deadpanpig:

Yes, though its can still give you dysentery unless you have the water purifier mod on your helmet.
It doesnt have to be in a well, you could just pour it on the ground, but you could make something that looks nice.

I have been able to drink from any standing pool of water but take 5 hp damage every time. I have never gotten dysentery from it though.
So all you really need is a steady supply of food to counter act the HP damage. Heck just save the boiled water for making corn on the cob.

You've just been lucky to avoid the dysentery then.

You can get a couple of ways

Clean Water:
Trader bought
Vendormachine bought
Quest reward
Cooking murky water in campfire with cooking pot
Dew Collector - 3 bottles per 24 game hours

Murky water:
Toilets
Sinks
Trash bags
Random containers
Can be drank without filer but suffer -5 health and chance of getting a runny ass
With filer is no negative

You can drink from a river/pool/bofy of water by pressing E without holding anythin in your hands
Without filter you'll suffer -5 health each drink and chance of getting a runny ass
With filter - no negatives

If you do get dysentery, just keep in mind that is has almost no effects.

Every time you get it, it adds 30% to your dysentery, which maxes out at 100% (you won't die at 100%, you just can't get any more dysentery). There is no debuff from dysentery, besides using food/water slightly faster (I think points in Iron Gut counter this effect, but the numbers are all small so it's hard to test). Dysentery heals itself quickly (about 1% every 25-30 seconds real-time). If dysentery makes you thirsty, just drink more water, if it makes you hungry, just eat more (you'd want to heal the drink-damage anyways). You can use meds for the damage too (pain killer heals 80-water's worth of damage, but consumes 40. First-aid bandage heals 60 water's worth of damage). If you actually get down to zero food or water, then you don't die, you just slowly lose HP (I think it's something like 30 real-minutes to die). If you have zero water (zero stamina regen) then you're still allowed to do quite a lot (open containers, sneak, jump up, use ranged weapons (even bows); just no sprinting or hand use). If you've put a point or two into the Healing perk, then feel free to eat Sham Sandwiches (the 5 damage is recovered by the perk much faster than the 15 Food is used up).

Can you only boil water if it's found in a jar, or is there a way to pour it in? Sorry, my group and I are so confused and so thirsty. We are tired of the poopies.

I've never seen a game making getting water so damn annoying to be honest. How realistic is it to not be able to carry an empty container to fill with water and cook. Dumb

im pretty sure you got empty containers after drinking. i think you could even drink from empty cans which dropped after eating canned food. But they must have patched it out. actually restarted thing to do.
