Finding random generators

Noob question. Been finding working generators, small and large in buildings. Just wondering if you do anything with them. They seem to stand out too much to be just decor

Oh and the burning shaft mod. does the light/heat off it attract zombies? and reduce stealth?

I usually just mine them out in the mid game as they can get you some iron bars and resources. 10k hitpoints are too long to break in the early game but worth it too.

Having an active light source makes stealth checks auto fail so I've always assumed burning shaft is a bad call if you're stealthing. I haven't rigorously tested it though.
