How many wood designs are there? So far from a wooden frame I on;t get chipboard and then I can turn it to a wooden planks look. Are there anymore designs and if there are, how do I get them? Thanks.

Actually, you get the one wood design look. Starts out looking like chipboard then to wood plank when it's upgraded......although, I think there's one way to do so it stays looking like chipboard? But, anyway....to get other wood 'designs' you actually use the paintbrush and pick the look from the color palette. The look I like is near last page....wainscoating or something like that. Anyway, experiment...have fun with it.

If you mean the textures, you can paint blocks with the paint brush and some paint.

If you don't mean textures, I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. Do you just mean you want to make cobblestone or concrete?

shapes by holding "R" with the block selected. You can paint any...most objects with paint and a brush though.

I mean changing the wood design all together, A wooden frame is chipboard, When I press L2 three times with my stone axe it turns into wooden planks. Those wooden planks look good for floorboards, I need a plain wooden look for the walls and another plain wooden look and lighter for the ceilings. Chipboard walls looks wrong.

When you right-click with the axe what you're doing is upgrading to better/stronger materials. After wood comes cobblestone, then concrete, then steel. But if you have a paintbrush and paint you can also change the look into whatever you'd like regardless of the material used. You can even paint crates, which is nice for making storage boxes with a symbol to indicate they're for medical supplies or ammo etc. (though there are writable storage boxes as well).

Yeah, that doesn't clarify anything so much as repeat what you said. :)

There are 3 qualities to blocks (all of them, not just wood) that you might want to change : Shape, texture, and material.

There is a context menu to craft different shapes when selecting a base shape. Paint is used to change the texture. And upgrading with a tool or replacing the block can be used to change the material. (wood, stone, concrete, metal).

Wield a paintbrush in your hand. Have some paint in your inventory. Hold the reload key on the block surface you want to paint to select from the radial context menu.

You will likely have other questions as you go along. Which means you may just want to google "how to paint in 7dtd". There are good videos for beginners that would probably be faster for you than playing 20 questions here.

You can also try "how to change shapes in 7dtd" and "how to upgrade blocks". Etc, etc.

Thanks, I didn't realise I had to buy the paintbrush and paint. I thought it was added in a paint option.

Like most other things, you can craft a paintbrush, and paint. The paint brush requires grass and wood I think? (don't remember exactly) Paint requires oil and some plants.

You can also find both in loot, but it's easier to just craft them when you want them. Scrapping a color mod also gives a small amount of paint.

Paintbrush is Leather + wood. It would make more sense if it were fibers + wood though...imo. For paint...in the early game....you find clothes in loot....choose option to modify them and take the dye out and place in your inventory. Not all clothes (some other items) will have a dye inserted into their mod slot but a lot will. Then you can 'scrap' the dye. It'll turn into paint. Later....when you can use chemistry...you can make paint.....the recipe will be listed for you when you go to craft in the station.
