Terrible FPS on an i7 7700, RTX 2070 Super, 16gb DDR4?
It's shocking. Can squeeze 16fps out on the lowest settings - what gives?

Problems with a new machine are likely to be drivers not installed, or old drivers installed, or something like that, PC builders aren't always the best at setting one up to work to full potential. Your specs murder mine so you should check everything out before blaming the game. That isn't a fanboy statement, just common sense.

I appreciate the level-headed comment.

I've run a few stress tests, checked all drivers for every device attached and everything is installed, up-to-date and working - just downloading a few other games (RDR2, Rocket League, etc) now to see if the problem is exclusive to 7DTD.

Check also in the BIOS that eXtended Memory Profile or XMP is enabled, a step often forgotten on pre-builts. Also as your new CPU has its own integrated GPU, please make sure the machine isn't configured to use that. It probably isn't, but it IS worth checking.

Except for all the people that run it great because they've built their own machines and know how to pc. Try the above.

I mean, I'm running:
- 16gb Corsair DDR4 Vengeance
- Intel Z390 LGA 1151 ATX Mobo
- Intel Core i7 9700K
- RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB Windforce

Not the worst machine in the world.
This is a solid build, but there are some things to check off first.

1. Did you perform a clean installation of the latest GPU drivers?
2. Did you remove the bloatware that the system ships with?
3. Did you re-configure the power profiles so that it's not throttling CPU and GPU performance? (This is the default out-of-the box for both Intel and AMD for a few years now.)
4. Did you verify that the RAM timing is configured correctly in UEFI? As SuperMeatBag staties, it's best to set it to the XMP profile. Many units have been shipping with it defaulted to the lowest speed profile for the system. When I built my R9 3900X, it had the RAM at 2133MHz instead of the 3200Mhz it should have been.

Oh, also should add, you want Texture Streaming set to Off. That's a feature for GPU's that are below the recommended specs.

Is the cable coming from the monitor connected to your motherboard or your gpu output?

I'm running a PC with roughly 2/3'rds of that horsepower, and run close to 100fps most of the time. It's not the game. Something in your rig isn't playing nice with others.

Here are the problems I had in Alpha 18, and the solution that seemed to work for me. With the settings listed below, the game seems to work fine!

Having problems with frame rate drops in A18

I have to say, Alpha 18 has me a bit perplexed: When previous Alphas have dropped, I haven't had any problems adjusting my video settings for smooth game play. Unfortunately, in A18 I'm having frame rate drops as low as "20." They happen suddenly, and usually when I'm in my base. Then the frame rate goes right back up again. Sometimes it's short lived, other times it fluctuates for a while. My normal frame rate is usually between 60 - 80 FPS. I have, however, experienced it as high as 150 FPS in A18. This new range (20 - 150 FPS) seems a bit odd to me.

I have three bases on my map, one in each of the following regions: South, East, and North (all in-game POIs). I am using Pregen Map 2. When I experienced a frame rate drop in my South base, I reduced the size of my tree farm (in the desert) and it seemed to fix the problem. Now I'm having the same problem in my North base (in the forest biome). So, I reduced the size of my tree farm once again. Unfortunately, it did not work this time. Perhaps there are already too many trees in the area, and my tree farm is the straw that broke the camel's back. I have about 50 trees in my farm (I've had larger farms in the past). I haven't eliminated my tree farm yet, but that's my next test.

Has anybody found a solution to the frame rate drops in A18? I would appreciate any insight since I am at a loss! I have spoken to others who are experiencing the same issue.

Here are the specs for my computer, and my game settings:

A) I have 16GB RAM (1600 MHz), SSD, i7 (4790k) @ 4 GHz, GTX 970 video card (4 GB video RAM), 2k monitor, Window 8.1.

1) I put my resolution @ 1920x1080 (even if you have a 2k monitor, 2k setting will make it lag). I also use Full Screen.

2) Vsync: Off

3) Anti-Aliasing @ yes / Texture @ half / UMA @ middle / reflection @ low & reflected shadows @ no / shadows distance @ near / water quality @ low / water particles @ 50% / view distance @ medium / LOD distance @ 50% / grass distance @ near / motion blur off / SSAD @ yes / depth of field @ no / sun shafts @ no.

4) Texture Streaming: I've tried this both on and off; I see no difference. (Use on)

5) Terrain Quality: I've tried this on both medium and high; I see no difference. (Use high)

6: Object Quality: I've tried this on both medium and high; I see no difference. (Use medium) the

Thank you, in advance, for any assistance you can provide! At

UPDATE: Well, I removed my tree farm in the forest biome and I haven't gotten any more FPS drops. So I guess the solution is to not have any tree farms, or keep them very small (maybe 20 or 30 trees)… And place the farm a fair distance from your base. I'm getting good FPS now.

Turn all reflection options off completely. That feature hasn't been optimized yet, and tanks performance on high-end systems. SSAO should be off on your setup as well.
Texture streaming you would want set to Off since you have 4GB VRAM. The option is there for low-end GPU's with less than 4GB VRAM.

Double check you have your Graphics card enabled and updated with latest driver.

I had the same issue a few years ago with another game, were my FPS was lower than my laptop. Realised my PC was set to run off the motherboard for graphics.

GPU running that high is normal if you don't have FPS capped or a CPU bottleneck. Mine is sitting at 99% pushing 80FPS in Outer Worlds right now. Temps are only at 65C, and I haven't even started playing with the fan profile, so they likely aren't even on. In comparison CPU is at 12%.

The game being in """""Alpha"'""" should have nothing to do with it. It is a game with physical copies in stores.

You sir, need to read the Early Access FAQ again. You apparently missed it the first time around.

I am running 7D2D on a i5-4660, 16gb ram, rx 580 8gb :)

CPU sits at around 50% and GPU does all the work
