Do zombies die from drowning?
I was thinking on making a water filled trap instead of Spikes

No least not last time I checked (not sure it ever has). But it does slow them down. This varies vs to vs (been playing since A9). Used to be that you could crossbow them underwater and they could never get to you even at night. Used to build forts in lakes with stakes at bottom since they sank to the bottom and walk over them slowed but who knows nowadays. This has switched all the time as time has progressed so you will have to test what is the current state.

I see, well, i was thinking on making a trench with logspikes on bottom and fill with water, idk, 3 blocks high.

Water in A14.7 do not slow down zombies.

dunno for sure but I've seen zombies that go under the water and stop halfway to another island and just start attacking in the middle of a lake for no reason at all. they stay there and when I come back later I find dead bodies there, sooo... perhaps if they are underwater for a prolonged time they WILL die. Not for certain so don't go quoting me on this.

Hm, this is an intresting observation, perhaps i should do the same on a controled enviorment just for the sake of the research.

In Alpha 14.7 my cousin and I built a base in Navezgane above water. We were there for at least 30+ days, the first night we stayed there we found a mysterious dead body below our base and weren't sure where it came from or how it came to be since we had no weapons to really kill anything at the current time.

As time went on and zombies/hordes came about we saw that no, the water has absolutely no effect at all whatsoever on the zombies. It SEEMED like they were slower but they obviously weren't, in fact we figured that by basing everything above water we would have an advantage. We were very mistaken.

The zombies did not die randomly, and if they did it was due to the spikes we had around the edges of our base. However, underwater it seemed that the zombies attacked each other a lot more frequently than they would above ground. I don't really know if it means anything, but I talked to my cousin about getting a ground base and then using water, but he told me this:

"Zombies used to be affected by water I think...Back when I played the older versions they were much slower and I don't know if it killed them but they were definitely slowed. But since Alpha 13 or 14 I think they removed it. I still see lots and lots of people using water but they don't realise it just doesn't give you an advantage anymore, it's just more of an issue for the player."

So yeah, in my opinion it's pretty much useless!

Not really, cuz its more like a testimony then an opinion. And its very useful, any piece of prior experiments with water and zombies are useful.

Now Adding to that, I was thinking if the game have some kind of harmful water, or like an Acid of sorts, since its the apocalipse and all. that would damage the zombies. and if you could craft it with nitrate and so. Nitric acid NHO³
However i think that acid is more related to explosive stuff than anything else.

Water doesnt slow zombies as said...zombies do not drown.

Zombies dont drown or even slow in water.
Happened to me today going after a supply drop that landed in an ocean, while I was looking through it's contents a random zombie got a few hits in. I gabbed what I could and swam back to shore with the zombie walking underneth me. It caught up to me and was completely fine til I eliminated it. So if it didn't drown after a few in game hours and kept up to me getting back then it's safe to say they don't drown or get that much slower at all.

While water doesn't slow/kill zombies, I still find it somewhat advantageous if you can find or build a base on a lake. It makes it very useful for when the hordes come at night, considering the just drop to the bottom and can't attack you or your base at all. They are still attracted to you (if they can sense you) and will sit at the bottom of the lake, but it is possible to get to shore and run away before they catch you. Or, if nothing else, float above them and kill them before you go to shore.
