Question about honey farming

The wiki says the wasteland treasures book gives you a 5% chance to get honey from trees, and i noticed that isn't not just when you fell a tree, but literally any hit can give honey. So what i want to know is, would it be better to hit trees with a tool that gives very little wood? So it would take many more hits to finish off a tree and therefor get more honey from less trees?

Don't trust wiki - Im not sure about that 5% but can't check it now.
First hit defines loot - same as opening any container - you don't have to fully open it, just starting opening will define what is inside.

Don't know about your specific question but you can also get honey from tree stumps. I was lucky enough to get it from day 2, just as I needed it, spawning into a public server at night, 1.8km from trader haha. The honey always comes from stumps after the final hit of depleting the stump. Not paid enough attention to see about the treasure perk, usually 1 or 2 hitting trees by then.
set up a creative world, god mode and find out :)
