But Fire axe / Iron Pick axe are solid weapons on default/adventurer as well.
That QL1 fireaxe probably has lower stats than your QL 2 stoneaxe / club, uses more stamina, etc. It does not really save you inventory space, since you still need a stoneaxe for mining and repairing. The stoneaxe does the job of an iron fireaxe, and iron pickaxe and a hammer - all for a single inventory slot. The sledgehammer does not harvest resources, so you smash things quick, but early game you need resources, so still need those tools.
Hunting knife and wrench are special cases. As role-playing challenges, I have done game instances where I limited myself to "wrench" only or hunting knife only (for melee / harvesting) but even with dedicated perks, trying to gather wood with a knife is tedious. Wrenches on cars can give you a lot of resources, of certain type, but are marginal on ores, or wood. Typically I had to "cheat" by using the stone axe just to be able to build / fortify POI's.
You can only get so far blocking entrances with chairs or never harvesting meat from animals.
and using the right tool for the job definately outweighs the inventory space they take up.
the trick would be not to take EVERYTHING all the time.
going out on a mission to harvest ore? you prolly dont need that wrench... just sayin
going out looting? most likely you wont need that pick.. tho its nice for beating down doors and walls ;o)
for me the first 5 slots of the hotbar are dedicated to always carry items.. the rest are flexible as needed.
The stone axe is one of the best single-slot multi-tool around, sure, but as a zombie weapon it rather sucks. Will it work if you've modded it a bit and are good at the melee combat? Sure. But it still sucks. :P
