but no not in general does it add lag.
but it depands how strong your machine is
your internet speed/ping
and your location to everyone else
Machine in question runs a 3080ti, amd5600x, 16gb ram. all computers are within the same household, no more than 30 feet apart. internet speed averages 95mg-150mb down. ping is 3-4ms
gfx pp enable 0
then type
pois
See if that helps your framerate (thus lag).
Are you hosting / playing in 4k? this game just hates 4k
Try at a lower resolution.
As Green1 said try turning off new dynamic mesh
Try lowering shadows a bit
Try lowering your LOD aka View distance a bit.
What size map are you on? 6k or 8k should be fine
The host machine keeps alot of the map loaded into memory
Currently playing on a sever with half the stats of my pc
I have hosted for 3 other players with out slideshow type effects
Intel 3.6ghz
32M of ram
1070 super
Lag happens minor teleporting rarely , zombie hit me when it wasnt near me kinda of stuff.
But crawling to sub 30 fps with 10 or less zombies should never happen on your rig.
I'll try this, thanks!
he's playing 2k. We’re running the prefab 10k map
Do you feel having that separate server helps? I'm going to try all the recommendations above, but at the end of the day, if a separate server will help considerably, we're willing to go that route.
Suggested things that have helped in previous versions.
The test i would try if you are on a 10k map, is to fire up a game with the whole crew on Navagane.
It is the default 6k map and it has far more spread out POI's so it tend to have the best performance.
Group up and make some Zeds mad.
Anyone having a problem in single player with 10-12 zombies?
If no one is having issues in single player then a server is the way to go, as the cpu, ram, or network stuff isnt enough from the host machine.
So the long and short of it
Yes a server is what you need, if you want to run the 10k map get a decent server.
