Does Server rental = lag elimination?
Three to four of us play together locally and while we periodically get lag, the worst of it is in POIs after more than 5 zombies converge. It's like watching a slide show. Has anyone tried to rent a server to see if this eliminates the problem? We were concerned our hosting computer was the problem, but if this is just an issue within the game, we don't want to waste money on a server.

get server in Australia, this will definetely eliminate lag (especially if you live in USA)

hosting a server and playing on the same machine is always more taxing.

but no not in general does it add lag.

but it depands how strong your machine is

your internet speed/ping

and your location to everyone else

Machine in question runs a 3080ti, amd5600x, 16gb ram. all computers are within the same household, no more than 30 feet apart. internet speed averages 95mg-150mb down. ping is 3-4ms

What is in question seems to be Bad frames per second. That is not Lag.

is this something we can adjust within our settings, or is this an issue with the game itself? We've lowered a lot of our graphical settings trying to get the large POI's to cooperate but it's done nothing to alleviate the issue.

Large buildings in large cities seem to have issues in the experimental build. Hope they can clean it up for stable. All you can do for now is lower settings if you have issues. Use a stronger faster multi threaded pc for hosting would help as well. Everything runs better for me in this build accept a few buildings in big cities.

Turn off the new mesh setting helps more than anything.

open console type
gfx pp enable 0
then type
pois

See if that helps your framerate (thus lag).

I can see you have a nice rig , but i have one question?
Are you hosting / playing in 4k? this game just hates 4k

Try at a lower resolution.
As Green1 said try turning off new dynamic mesh
Try lowering shadows a bit
Try lowering your LOD aka View distance a bit.

What size map are you on? 6k or 8k should be fine
The host machine keeps alot of the map loaded into memory

Currently playing on a sever with half the stats of my pc
I have hosted for 3 other players with out slideshow type effects
Intel 3.6ghz
32M of ram
1070 super

Lag happens minor teleporting rarely , zombie hit me when it wasnt near me kinda of stuff.
But crawling to sub 30 fps with 10 or less zombies should never happen on your rig.

he's playing 2k. We’re running the prefab 10k map

Do you feel having that separate server helps? I'm going to try all the recommendations above, but at the end of the day, if a separate server will help considerably, we're willing to go that route.

Could be CPU bottleneck, could be the ram usage going into the pagefile, could be alot of things.
Suggested things that have helped in previous versions.
The test i would try if you are on a 10k map, is to fire up a game with the whole crew on Navagane.
It is the default 6k map and it has far more spread out POI's so it tend to have the best performance.
Group up and make some Zeds mad.

Anyone having a problem in single player with 10-12 zombies?
If no one is having issues in single player then a server is the way to go, as the cpu, ram, or network stuff isnt enough from the host machine.

So the long and short of it
Yes a server is what you need, if you want to run the 10k map get a decent server.

i have a verry good server and with 5 of us on the server we still had lag until we got a mem upgrade and mdme upgrade and that helped considerably but we had problems on my server before the upgrade and we complained because of haveing to pay for 10 ppl and only 5 of us used it and we new that so we got a great discount. id definitely get a server they average around 15 dollars a month with upgrades and improove a lot of stuff
