Blocks that can be shoot through.
Hey so me and my friend started playing 7dtd few days ago.
Right now we are preparing for the horde at day 7, we don't know what to expect (which is part of the fun). So I thought about making something like a balcony near our walls with spikes to shoot zombies from above. The problem is that I don't know which blocks can be shoot through. Are there any? I'm especially interested in floors. Thanks a lot and have a nice day!

You can make wooden bars and use R, choose advanced rotation, and turn them on their side. They can be upgraded to iron bars which have a lot of HPs and can be shot through. Put the wooden bars down first to be sure you have them where you want them, then, with Forged Iron in your inventory, just rightclick/upgrade the bars like upgrading a block, and you'll have some nice floor/shooty areas. I use wood ones first because they are cheap and fast to make. I'm a dweeb and usually wind up putting at least 2 or 3 in the wrong position, so it's way way easier to knock out some wooden bars and replace them than to cook iron bars in the forge and then mess them up. You can't throw grenades or pipe bombs through them, but you could put in hatches or leave holes to do that if you wish.

I like to put bars around the outside edge of my buildings so I can walk around and shoot anything beating on the walls down below. It works VERY well.

In a pinch you can also shoot through the wood frames that you place and pick up (though you can't pick them back up after they're damaged). But they don't have much HP and upgrading them in A19 changes them to full cube/blocks that you CANNOT shoot through.

The bars, like Khissi already mentioned, are probably the best thing to use. You can make them "centered" (where they sit in the middle of a space) or regular/non-centered where they sit like they're up against the block(or airspace) next to them.

I concur with the idea of bars. Bars are good. :)

Hatches are also great. Not for shooting through, but in .. other ways.. just a tip. :)

Just a note when converting Wooden Bars to Iron Bars -- Wood weighs 5 and supports 40 horizontally, Stone (concrete, flagstone, etc) weighs 10 and supports 120, while Metal weighs 20 and supports 300 horizontally. This means that a stone structure can easily support from one side a wood floor that's 7-8 blocks wide, but if you convert some of that wood to Iron then there's a chance it will collapse (if you started from the side touching stone, then you'd be alright for 5 Iron Bars, but upgrading the 6th would cause collapse because the remaining wood bars in blocks 7 and 8 exceed the support weight of stone) (the collapse happens immediately if you didn't start with the blocks touching stone).

WARNING: Using wood frames as a shooting platform during horde night may result in injury or death.
'Wood Frames R Us' bears no responsibility for those who fat finger the 'E' key at the wrong time and accidentally pick up the block they are standing on, causing them to plummet down in to the mass below.

(I've done it more times than I care to admit)

And, THIS is why I always use bars when it's important. I never leave home without wooden frames, which have saved my bacon more times than I can remember, but, when it's something that I do NOT want to fall through no matter what... bars. Even the wooden ones will last a long time if you've not yet encountered cop spit. That eats through them fairly quickly.

Late answer, but even after years of play this looks really useful.

Just a note that since A20 you can't upgrade wood bars to iron, they upgrade to stone. If you want iron bars you have to make them in a forge.

For shoot through blocks: bars, railings and arrow slits can be shot through but block melee and thrown objects. They also block manual interactions (Iike picking things up or flicking switches). Partial blocks, like poles, allow you to make openings you can melee and/or throw things through. Be careful doing this, as if the opening is big enough zombies will get through it too.
