I don't mind the time it takes, but they really should have it set up so that it doesn't just start the world when it's done, because with these long generation times, I want to go off and do something else until it's ready.
I'm running everything on SSD's though, all my drives in my PC are SSD's, can't ever go back to HDD's once you had a taste of the speed.
To be honest as well, the 10k process of generating the map ended with 7dtd minimizing RIGHT after the map was completely built, with my computer kicking me to the desktop to tell me that "Computer is out of Memory". There seems to be an insane memory leak, since all generated maps of 8k size are under 300 Megabytes in size, and 10k maps are under 500 megabytes in size.
So this doesn't add up, how the maps are tiny in size, but the game runs out of many dozen gigabytes of memory in seconds, when writing the map to the hard drive / SSD.
My guess is that as I said, a memory leak causes this. There used to be problems with other programs, like the famous "Firefox" memory leak that would simply leak as much memory as you had. If you had 128 Gigabytes of RAM, then the leak would consume 128 Gigabytes. You could have Octabytes, and still the leak would have found a way to make that full to the max.
From the main menu, create a new game, and on the game world selection cycle through the options (after Navezgane and "newrandom world" but before the 3 pregens) and I bet your RWG map will be available. Then give it a game name, set your options, and start. That is, assuming you've cleaned your data and aren't trying to start a new game while having ancient saves lingering in your directories because that could mess things up.
Hey
Only my boot drive is an SSD, and my others are a Barracuda 2tb internal HDD and a Seagate 4tb external HDD
I've never had issues with loading times before for any games using these drives, but this one was just terrible lol
I didn't name the world as I was only playing SP, but does that make a difference, and could it have caused the issue??
Yeah, that's annoying, as you get dumped in the world, and if you're away... 🤔 🙀
Ah, OK... I think I'll try to remove any old saves etc
What the quickest way to clean the data please?
I'm not really that computer literate, although putting the components together is no problem lol 😬
WIPE ALL DATA FOR A20!
Kinda hard to miss...
Thanks for the pointer, and the little smidgen of sarcasm 😉
I missed it because I'm at work and didn't actually have the time to search for it (if it was here at all) just yet, and thought that one of the lovely forum users would be so kind as to help me with either a link (as you've done) or a simple explanation, if there was one!
What seems obvious to some people does not stand out so easily for others as we're not all alike!!
But thanks again for your help 😊
Ok, as I have to restart with a new save game anyway, I may as well do it with a fresh install!
Thank you!!
But if you haven't cleaned your data since having a previous alpha installed, then yeah start over. When you launch the game, there will be an option that says "show game launcher." Select tools, and then click "clean game data"
Thank you!
I'll make sure to do that!
I think I've still got a game save from Alpha 11 or A12 in there somewhere and have never cleaned it up, so I'll do that, and as I have to start a new game anyway, it won't really make too much of a difference!
Thanks again!
i7 8700k 32 gigs of 2666 ddr4 and a gtx 1070. 10k map takes me 9-11 minutes depending on Town/PoI density.
If I had to guess I'd say it's only using a single core for some unknown reason. Maybe lack of support for what sounds like a pretty uncommon CPU? If there is one thing I've learned from 30+ years of gaming it's new hardware generally sucks at running older games. (And yes this game has been in EA for so long it can be considered an older game at this point.)
