How do you get Engines?

Ive tried breaking Cars down but so far no engines...
Im gamestage 80 level 30+ and getting close to 50 days

Is there a hidden mechanic for engines/loot? I have salveging operations level 2 I have a ratchet - but still no engines...It makes me sad I have a Generator back at base I bought plus a blade trap and relays...but no abilty to power it.

Where do you guys get your engines from?

On the bright side this alpha is giving me plenty of ammo!

I just wrench cars. I don't think there's a secret trick. I generally end up with a storage crate with 40 spare unneeded engines by mid game.

Note that only "whole" cars can give engines and batteries. The burnt out frames can't. So if you are wrenching dozens of burnt our frames then that's your problem.

Just salvage a bunch of cars, you will drop engines eventually, we have like box with 40iosh engines in our crafting base.. More than we ever will need.

Tip 1:
Big vehicles, such as military trucks or schoolbusses are guranteed to give either a battery or engine, sometimes both.
tip 2: Look for vehicle engines (transmissions) in auto shops. You can take apart the transmission and get a usable engine.

yes the gas stations have a motor on a stand, it can be scrapped for a motor. is your loot skill high too?

also engines only come from vehicles that are still in stage 1 or 2 of dismantling. If the cars are stage 3 (the stripped down frame with practically nothing left) , there's no chance of an engine.
