What Happen To The Wooden stairs?

I am trying to build a base but there no longer seems to be wooden stairs just metal or something like that and i just started and don't have the matts for the metal stairs. There use to be wooden stairs in this game am i correct?

I see something called catwalk/stairs but when i place them it looks like a pallet and they are useless

OK i guess it changed I don't remember having to do that we use to just make stairs, are all parts like that?

A lot of them now, yes. If you look at the icon of catwalks (as an example) you can see a little white shape in one of its top corners. Any other item with that same shape can also be turned into other shapes by holding "R" on it.

Wood frames also have their own stairs options.

Not all items with that white symbol on them will have the same options or number of options. So it pays to make one of everything (a few of them are make in the forge) to see what your options are.
