Is it possible to have 100% damage resistance?
Is it possible to have a damage resistance so high, or have the ability to take absolutely no damage at all from any Zombie in 7DTD?

Would you have to have maxed out Steel Armor, Pain Tolerance, Fort Bites, and a few other things to where if a Detonator goes Aloha Snack Bar point blank in front of me, I would take no damage?

Not exactly. So, usually with Armor ratings, the way it works is a certain amount of points will be negated and anything over that amount you'll actually get hit with for a reduction in health points. So, let's say you have all those perks--everything to do with armor--maxed out and a zombie hits you for a measly 10 points of damage. Your armor and armor perks would negate all that and you'd take 0 damage. But, let's say a super zombie like irradiated feral hits you for something like 50 points of damage. Then your armor / perks might negate 30 points of that damage and you'd still receive the remaining 20 points damage. These are just random numbers.....I haven't tested for real value's but, I think I made the point?

Max reduction is something like 90-95%, with all skills and foods/candy.

Which is a flat 90-95% reduction, doesn't matter if you're dealt 10 damage or 500, you will only take 5-10% damage.

You can, Sortof. It requires fortbite usage and a high enough initial/base armor value that the fortbites bonus would put you over 100.

What will happen is you'll cease taking normal physical damage for the duration of fortbites.

However, and these are two huge things to note:
1: t does not protect you from Explosion damage. (Or other non-physical types of damage. Electricity still hurts, fire still hurts, etc)
And
2: This does not protect you from INJURIES

So, Because of #1, No, It will not save you if a detonator explodes beside you. Nor will it allow you to stand in a mine explosion safely.

And because of #2, using this ability to take zero damage from normal zombies to facetank them as if you were invincible will get you riddled with injuries like bleeding/concussion/broken arms/broken legs/etc, all of which will sap your stats and maximum health value.

As well, Bleeding will still damage you during this because it's not physical damage.

So in the end, yes, You can achieve 100% physical damage reduction. It's not capped- And it's not a bug. The QA team/dev team knows about this and left it in specifically as a 'Last Stand' kindof thing, since the injuries pile up on the player during it anyway... But doing so is likely certain death.

It does matter if the damage is 10 or 500......... 10% of 10 is 1, 10% of 500 is 50.

You missed the point, don't worry about it.

Max damage reduction using any combination of perks gear and meds is 90%
Armor rating = % damage reduction so 75 armor rating is 75% damage reduction.
Pain tolerence adds to damage reduction, special gear combined with perk books like the fire fighter helmet and books all adds to total damage reduction.

It is in the journal or was last i looked, it is one of the load screen tips.

Last time i did any testing on this was A18 i doubt anything has changed but it is possible.

yes you can hit 100% but keep in mind that armor is for physical damage from being hit by something. bleeding, burning, explosions, and other elemental types are affected by a different source of armor known as elemental armor. I think bleed inflicts true damage though, so it cant be blocked by any means.

now, the health loss reduction from pain tolerance and other certain perks/buffs is not cumulative with armor, it's a completely seperate reduction. health loss reduction takes effect AFTER your armor is calculated and reduces the damage that was done to your health. this is useful because it means it will work on more things than armor alone.

so lets say you have 90 armor, a zombie hits you with a 1000 damage attack.
you take 100 damage, but you have health loss reduced by 50%

you recover the 50 damage instantly(think this is a bug), and so it deals 50 damage instead of 100.

due to this bug(i think it's a bug), you will die if the hit would normally kill you without health loss reduction.

back to the example, you have 90 health when that 100 damage comes in, and you die even with the health loss reduction of 50% due to the health loss being calculated LAST.

I hope this helps.

so remember, there are 3 types of reduction going on here: armor, elemental armor, and health loss reduction.

I am pretty sure sure elemental armor and explosion resistance are one and the same in the stats tab.

Actually a lot of those things do not work like armour, and don't stack with it. The damage reduction from wearing suits, college jackets and fireman's helmets (if you have the right book perks) all work the same way as pain tolerance, which is not the same way armour works.

What pain tolerance actually does (the tooltip description is unhelpful) is immediately heal back a percentage of any injury a split second after you take it. With the perk maxed out, taking a 20 point hit will heal you for 5 hp a very brief moment after taking the damage. Interestingly taking a 20 point hit if you're at 20hp will kill you, even though your pain tolerance would, in theory, save your life.

If you're wearing armour you'll take less damage from a blow, and also therefore get less instant healing back afterwards, but pain tolerance and armour don't really interact beyond that.
