The only weapon to change in this regard, that I recall, is the crossbow. This was changed to not auto-reload by popular demand many patches ago.
Make sure you aren't swapping weapons, and make sure you actually have ammo for the weapon in your inventory. Maybe check any mods you are using, and verify your game files.
This is not the case. Even if you use all the ammo in a weapon’s clip, it doesn’t reload until you hit R or click again.
Strange, no weapons auto reload for me. In the case of the crossbow, that’s actually one I really want to auto reload as that is my main weapon. Apparently I’m in the minority for wanting auto reload on it though.
Just tested to make sure.
The wooden bow auto reloads.
For guns, you do not have to hit the reload button, but you do have to hit the trigger for the gun to reload. I never really noticed because i manually reload after every significant fight and during a significant fight i keep hitting the trigger anyways.
