It also is a massive storage advantage, since it is ONE stack of 1k gunpowder and i believe the stacks stack to 5. So you have 5k gunpowder taking one slot in storage.
Storage isn’t such an issue for gunpowder of all things, as you make it in one bench, then move it straight to another bench to craft bullets, so it’s not something you’ll be carrying around generally. The big thing is the material saving. The skills that let you craft bullet boxes and stacks of gas, however, the storage savings are really handy, so you can take supplies around while adventuring (or on horde nights for ammo), without filling your inventory.
