What happens while you're offline?
Hello,

I tried to find answer by myself with no luck.

I and few friends are thinking about renting 24/7 server, so we could all play in same world without waiting for each other to be online. What happens to the bases while you are offline? For example, if i start forge, workbench etc. at my base, then go to sleep and work (16 RL hours until i come back) - will my base be destroyed by zombies? Or what could happen?

I am not afraid of my friends ill-doing, just about zombies actions...

That could happen, on a server the world persists even when you are not online. So long as the server is running of course. chances are unless you leave forges and fires running though your online friends will get the zeds and not you as they will cause heat to rise around them while you are idle/offline.
But what happens while noone of us is online? Will zombies wreck our places?

No idea, sorry.
You can set your dedicated server to go into "sleep mode" where it pauses the game if no one is online.

That is how mine is set up and it works great.
And while someone other is online - will zombies try to investigate heat i built by using forges etc., will they attack my base? I really don't appreciate idea my base will be destroyed everytime i get back from work :-)
If nobody logs into the server at all, you're fine because everything pauses. The moment you or a friend log in, time starts moving again ( and any queued up crafting will recommence in forges, campfires , workbenches etc ). Depending on how long they play without you, it's also possible for days to progress considerably. IE: Logging out on day 10 and logging back into the middle of a Day 14 horde

Unfortunately if someone is online the server is running as intended. However if your forges/cement mixer/fireplace are turned off you should technically have very little to worry about. I logged into my server late yesterday after a 5 day WoW binge and I had a small wall near my farm destroyed and that was it. Server is on 24/7 and public so there is always someone online.
After turning on the stove and the output from the server, the work will take about half an hour, then stopped.
Zombies do not attack base if no one has it.
One little off-topic question - what if i build long tunnel from my base (about 50 blocks) and put my forges there? Then they could be working even while i am offline without risk of attack, couldn't they?

I suppose you could go off to a biome you do not live in, make a hole to bed rock and put 4 forges and campfires in it. Then light them up before you are offline. Make sure stuff in your base is off too. That way hordes will go elsewhere when you are not present. (In theory)

That will work.

Just don't build your base deep underground as nothing will touch you no matter if people are online 24/7 or not and you will get super bored as the title of the game never comes into play (you completely ignore 7 day hordes).

I did that on launch and sever al times before and quite within days. Now we take over buildings and it is way more fun trying to hold out.
Ok, thank you all for quick answers
Time stops, if there are no players on the server, and I have my own server, so I decide, If the base should rot when you are offline or not. Check your Decay setting on the right side before joining a Server.
Zombies Will Always Attack you, Not your Base. If your Online They attack you and not your offline freinds structures. They dont give a ♥♥♥♥ for your base, they just wanna come in and eat you.
What is logged while you are offline? As an admin, can I check up on individual players activity in the logs?
