Building outside land claim.
Is the only difference between being inside a land claim radius, the decay rate or is there more to it? PvE server.

Land claim "should" block zombie spawns in its radius.
You can pick up workstations.
PVP durability modifier

Only differences that come to mind.

The big thing for a co-op server is just the ability to pick up workstations, shotgun turrets, blade traps, etc. all the electrical stuff and any crafting station. Claim blocks also block some biome spawns but won't block spawns on horde night (changing the claim block radius has no effect) and if you are in a re-purposed POI the sleeper zombies can also respawn without regard to the claim block, those are blocked by sleeping bags instead. I'm sure that will get consistified in some future version.

Also one little quality of life feature is that within your own claim block area, it seems like the range at which you can place or pick up frames is increased. I haven't measured though, so take that with a grain of salt.

So building bridges and such, outside land claim, is not a big deal. Depending on server allowing it of course.

You can build anything wherever you want with or without LCB. You can't build in someone else's LCB area however, and everything you build outside of your LCB area will not get protection from it. If it's a PVE server you have nothing to worry about.
