Terrain dipping?
Hi all,

I'm new to (actually playing - been watching for some time) the game and was wondering if there's something glaringly obvious I'm missing to level terrain around blocks such as house foundations? They always seem to dip down just around it so it looks weird. I'm aware of how to use the dirt tool to fill in holes and build up terrain height but this does not do as desired when the issue is terrain being filed off around existing blocks*. Any advice?

Also, is there any way to paint terrain/change blocks to alter grass to cleared or vice versa?

Thanks!

* Very annoying if you're building something like a garage and want the drive to transition seamlessly into the interior!

I know the dip you're talking about. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is actually a fix for it. If you place a dirt "block" on a flat terrain, you'll notice it's diamond shaped. The same is for crushed stone, sand and asphalt. Because of this, when cubed source blocks are placed next to/around it, it'll just poke upwards without filling the space. Dirt and the other terrains I mentioned are not cubed sources, so they don't go to the edge of the area. (This is my THEORY on the matter, not a definitive answer).
I've tried many things to fix it but to no avail! Dirt to sand to asphalt to crushed stone seems to level it out, but again adding a cube source block to the mix just throws it.
I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you!

if you are talking about the trasition between like a block to build with and say dirt or stone then use i think it is called siding it can be made in the forge

@Xtinction, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, the wood frame is not working for me. I have seen the technique with others to level terrain, so I do know what you're getting at, but in terms of getting rid of that irritating 1/4 (ish) of a block dip around my building's foundations, I've had no luck. It seems like the game is saying 'there's a block there, we can't bring this edge up to ground height' even though it has been done around other parts of the building (bits that were pre-made by the game).

Yeah, it's a glitch that can't be solved right now.
Basically, if they fix that they'll mess up terrain everywhere else. :nay:

It's called iron sheet, and you can craft it from wood too. Craft fences/railings block and chose wood fence from shape menu (it's first in the menu I think) and just rotate it to lay on the ground with advanced rotation. It's the only way to fill that gap without making a small stair that you bump into when walking/driving over it. You can use plate to cover that but it's thicker and can cause a jump when driving over it with vehicle.

Thanks guys - all your answers are tremendously helpful! While it's a bit of a bummer to know there's no solution to this aesthetically insulting issue, I'm glad to know it is not an error on my part and I live in hope that it will be fixed at some point. Happy surviving y'all :steamhappy:

The sheet really works to "fix" it, especially for driving over. You could paint to match either the terrain or your garage flooring, and you'll forget it's there.

I also use this if I'm building a pit trap for the zombies, so they walk/run into the hole in the ground without catching on the lip. Works great!

Yeah, craft wooden fencing, lay it flat with advanced rotation, upgrade it once to make it a panel, paint it an appropriate colour to fit in with the flooring, and boom, looks perfect, can be walked and driven over with no bump. Use iron sheets if you might need something more durable.

Wood plates or iron sheets make for a decent transition.
