Any advice on flattening land?
For example, if i dig up the dirt ground and then try to place land back in, it doesn't go in evenly with the other land, it's not flat or level. Any tips on how to achieve this? Preferably with a video if possible.

Also there are some roads with potholes in them which can cause minibikes to get stuck. I'd like to fill it with asphalt or gravel (likely gravel since it doesn't use oil) but also can't seem to make the land flat or level. Really would like to patch up the roads so that they are safer/easier to ride on.

Place a line of objects(box, rebar, enz) and the land will be raised to the level of the starting (box) point.

Holes can be filled by dirt (craftable) place it in the weapons slot select it and place it in a empty spot on the map. Dirt is cheap.

Wooden frames do it too.

The problem is when i'm filling the holes, the thing i put in (e.g. dirt, forest ground, gravel) doesn't go in flat. It's usually wierdly shaped, or too big or something, and then I need to have it flattened.

The top two layers are always wonky due to terrain smoothing. The top layers are partials, odd shapes to create rises and dips in the terrain. Like when you are mining and as the block is diminished, it's join properties to teh blcoks around it causes it to shift and becoem smaller.

So something that looks relatively flat may indeed be a 3% of a row of blocks that are lower and a 5% on a block that is actually higher next to each other. Together they create a very small rise. But when you place full sized soil on them you get different filled elevations. If you want a level region, the only ways I know to do it are:

- Dig the region down to where it's all flat ground (2 down) and then fill in the region with soil to make it actually flat. It'll still go a bit wonky on you at the edges where you join it to ground that is still under the influence of terrain smoothing

- Go to the map generation settings (I forget which file) and signicantly reduve the emount of terrain height to get a lot more flatness aacross the map.

- Place blocks over the region and then put soil on the blocks.

I usually perform the "wooden frame" test ...

If the wooden frame sinks into the ground, place the frame to flatten the ground ; If the wooden frame floats slightly above ground, place the frame to make the terrain rise to the frame, then dig out the part that just got raised.

To get an idea of elevation ... Stand on the ground you want everything to be level at, open the map and read your elevation. Use that as a guide. I will also determine level ground by using my sniper rifle scope as a "sight level" (like a surveyor), works well for getting an idea of how level distant terrain can be when compared to the ground you're standing on.

i just turn rock into destroyed stone easy and cheap material for road fixing

Try tilling the soil with the hoe.

Wood frames are your friend for leveling the ground. Make 100 and cover the area. dig or fill the high/low areas then reapply the frames.

Thanks all, appreciate the feedback.. keep it coming im still trying to figure this out, using wood blocks and stuff.. still have some issues myself and may post a video soon if i cant progress with this.
I know this might be a bit late, but what you can do is, place in dirt, then place wooden frames above on it, then go underneath and place the material (soil) you want just below of the wooden frames, like for instance asphalt. When you've placed the material, you can remove the wooden frame and you should now have a flat surface. Unfortunately this requires the debug mode, but at least it's one way thats not too difficult, which doesn't require one fiddling with code or modifying any files.

Credit goes to my fiancée for discovering the workaround ;)

Nice! But if it's for farming patches then in A18 you won't need plain soil anymore:

Don't know why all these other games don't make a tool that can fill and flatten like Empyrion has.

Empyrion is a sci-fi game, that tool would be out of place in 7DTD IMO.
Flattening could be done with some manual tool though.
