How do you invite friend to private server?

How do you invite friend to private server? --- I'm trying to have a friend invite me and/ or I am inviting him to private server game already created. We each have one with password. However, we are both finding it extremely difficult to find where and how to enter each others games. There are places that ask for IP and Server Ports, which I have no idea what these are or how to find them to give them?!?! Didn't realize it would be THIS DIFFICULT to play a game with a friend only! Nothing out there on Youtube or in Guides on Steam is directing me to the right answers. When creating these games it says you will need to give your friend the password to play, but I see and find nothing that says that when trying to join the other. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi first you need the server name find it in the server list in join a game enter password and hit enter you should be able to play together if you still have trouble i have a server and are look for people to play with me my server is called Belldandy not a newbe have over 2000 hours in game if you and your friend would like to play with me i can out fit you with gear and your own base if you like so if you like to play friend me and i will send you the password good luck in game hope tthis helps waiting to hear from you

Here's how me and my brother do it.

After you've spawned in to your world do this.

Hit 'esc' to pause your game
Hit 'shift' + 'tab' to bring up the Steam overlay.

One of the things you will see on the Steam overlay is a list of your friends who are online.
Click on the drop down box by your friend's name. One of the options will be "Invite To Game"
Just click on that and enjoy.

Yes, both great answers! I also found that since I had created my own game, and once in game, I could hit "Esc" + hit "Invite Friend", and since he was a friend in Steam and was Online, then he could Accept Invite. ALL in that order, mind you!... We both set up Discord so we talked our way through it before finding both of of your answers, because someone had moved comments to this location. --- Thank you so much for your comments!
