Zombies spawning on roofs or climbing ladders?
Hi guys, today I started playing 7d2d again after a few years absence. Still trying to learn all the new mechanics, but I just noticed something really strange:

I spent the very first ingame night on the roof of a large warehouse.

The only way up was a ladder. I cleared the roof during the day and made sure that no enemies were left. Then, I build my camp (bedroll and campfire).

However, a couple of hours after nightfall, there were suddenly two zombies on the roof, waiting for me in the dark. Didn't have enough torches to light up the whole roof, so these guys took me by surprise and actually killed me.

Now I am wondering - where the hell did they come from and how did they get up there?

Can zombies really climb ladders? Or do they actually spawn on roofs out of nowhere?

A bedroll covers a small area, land claim blocks cover large amount of area.

I think zombies can climb ladders, people knock out the first 2 blocks of ladders so zombies cant climb easily.

Zeds can climb ladders. Some can jump quite high as well.

Bedroll and LCB only block sleeper spawns. They will not block any other type of spawn.

Thank you both very much for the fast replies!

Although I find it very strange that zombies are able to climb ladders (I would call it "unrealistic", but I guess that's an inappropriate term when talking about zombies... ^^), at least it's good to know so that I can avoid such nasty surprises in the future.

Honestly, I like it, because the game should not be too easy. Just a heads up for the future, when the blood moon hits, those zombies are hella fast and many can jump much higher and even spew projectile bile that hurts you, and there are more birds to deal with.

Also, if you barricade the top of a building and ensure there is no way up.... they WILL destroy the building itself to get to you. Nothing like standing on top of your fortress and hearing blocks beneath your feet start to crumble! :D

The game has settings you can change to make it easier, but honestly if the zombies weren't a real threat then it wouldn't be as enjoyable to me so I tend to turn them up.
